    Congrats Catchin!
Nice fish!.. and they have been hard to come by further north last few weeks... am hoping it improves this weekend... two weeks ago we couldn't buy a bite, but figured they were on their beds yet. Glad to see you found him!

Good luck on your next trip also!

Thanks. The picture wasn't the best, it was from a cellphone. I ended up with 3 that night but that was the biggest. I'm heading back again tonight to see if I can get into some more. I love other people's comments on what they think fish weigh. Unless my berkely digital scale is off 5-7 lbs, I'm sticking with 20.

Weight is very hard to judge on a fish, best chance of accurate estimate from a pic is if there is a specific point to reference it from... I would guess that the tackle box in the pic was 16 to 18", so I figured cat was probably 34 or 35" long with a girth of about 16"... so your twenty should be about right.  Maybe if you laid a yardstick/tape somewhere on the floor of the boat it would be easy to lay the fish against it and get a pic... would give a reference.
... and no matter what the #s it is a nice fish and congrats, the bite has been tough farther north, so getting 3 in one night is doing pretty darn good!
     Good luck this weekend!
Hope to see some more pics!

Yes, you're right. It's hard to judge a fish by a picture. I wish I got a picture of it when I held it up but with just a cellphone I didn't bother. How far up north are you fishing? I've been fishing down from Lock 2 around Blawnox. I've found some nice flathead spots down there through the years. It's very hit and miss though, just like any type of fishing. Well, maybe I'll actually bring my digital camera out with me tonight to get some better pictures. Thanks for the ideas

We are usually up around pools 6 and 7... Use a couple of flashlights or battery lanterns on the fish when you try to get a pic of it, even if they aren't directly pointed at it they provide ambient light in the area and make it easier for the digital cameras to focus. Do a few practice shots around in the boat before hand so when you have a fish on board you have a better idea of what area you need it in and what lights you need on to get a pic.  Good luck....

i agree about measurments and weights. I caught a few big flatheads and the first on was about 11 years ago. When i caught it, it was the first i had caught in that area. We guesstimated it at 35 lbs...but after weighing some of the carp we been catching...it was bigger than that....at least i think....I have caught maybe the samo one, and one that was longer than a 4 foot grade stake...plus a few inches...daughter caught a big one and a large carp one night...same here hard to get a picture ....of a cat at night...the grass is green...water about the same color...there camoed..lol...need a piece of white plywood....lol...i also wasnt happy with grabbin the first by the jaw...thing.....comparing the pressure of a small channel cat...lol.the flatties are nothing..feels like some velcro....also you can compare it to the 3 ...5 gallon buckets stuck together...

Flats dont clamp down on your hand when holding them by the lower jaw. I think its a weight distribution thing. Makes it harder to work the jaw muscles when you have their entire body weight pulling down on the jaw your holding.

Ive read that Channels & blues have alot of pressure per square inch from adapting to eating mussels.

no they dont..your right...actualy isnt the lower jaw shorter...all the ones ive caught lately have been offset....
but lol...when i caught the first one im thinking if this thing clamps down as hard as a channel that size im in trouble...
but i bank fish...one place i catch them i have to walk out in about a foot of water to get them....and most others from the bank....the big ones are still bting in the lakes a friend caught one....wednesday night while we were out.....so i use a rod on a 7' oak handle...no messing with then..no rolling etc....holdem for a pic..and let them go...hey the one i said was taken home in a previous post was a guy from bobtown not masontown...sorry...his last name was wolf....
it was a nice one...another buddy caught a big one at the crucible ferry....a week or so ago....so there out there the bite is just slow....
