My week in Quebec

Last week I ended up in Quebec fishing with some old friends. Canada truly is the land of plenty when it comes to good walleye and pike waters. Because my Outfitter is hard to book during peak times, I will refrain from stating his name. I will say, I was about 300 miles north of Ottawa. Early in the week, I was satisfied to catch as many fish as I could, but as the week progressed, I began focusing on larger fish and fishing thier holding areas. Once I found my hot lure and spot, the week got really fun. I ended up catching 150-200 walleye, and about 30 northerns. Only 2 of the northerns were under 24", which I was very pleased about. I caught alot of 20"+ walleye, with my largest being 25". Our group did catch a couple 30's, but I was the one watching, not reeling in. Hope you enjoy the pics.

You bet they are!  But I gotta be honest, the only reason I wore them was because the pike you see in the net tore up my thumb when I was removing the spinner.  It went nuts and buried the treble into the knuckle of my thumb.  I opted for some protection from that point on!

You have to have a **** now for Canada don't you?

Yes, a **** is required now.  Every year I carry up my birth certificate too, but never end up needing it.

As for those thinking of going.......go at the risk of being spoiled!  You will not be sorry!

Our biggest Pike for the week were 45", 44", 42" and 41".

GilliganJR - Saw a mother bear with 4 cubs while driving back a dirt road. Probably only stood 8 or 10 inches high! We stopped the vehicle to watch them climb up a tree, but mommy was getting a little huffy, so away we went.

A group from Homer City, PA was in this cabin the week before us, and it was a pleasure hearing (and reading) about how well they did.

No brookies ? If i'm going that far, I'm going after them big brookies. Don't get me wrong, I love to catch pike and eyes, but if I'm paying its going to be something special that I can't get around here.
But still, It looked like a good trip and glad you had fun !

I'd love to go after them monster gators, but I'd try to sneak in a day or two of brookie fishing as well while I was there. Any pike over 40" is a monster, looks like they had a GR8 trip !

Yes ther are limits. Each provionce is a little different, and even certain waterways within that province can be different like some of ours are here. When you get your license, please read and know exactly what you are allowed to bring back. I have fished Canada quit a bit and you do not want to willingly or unwillingly break the law, ecspecially if your from the "States". They can take all of your stuff, vehicle, boat & equipment. Fillets have to have some skin left on them for fish ID, and the fillets have to be able to be counted> Dont throw 30 fillets in a bag and freeze (no way to tell how many there are), if you have perch and such, we froze them whole and put 5 in a gallon zipper freezer bag and left them like that until we got back home and then cleaned them. This makes id and count very easy for the officials. You have to be careful when you are in another country, they tend to be on the look out for US plates, hoping to find something. I've had them waiting at the boat launch at our truck just because we had Pa plates on them and have been checked several times like this.
