Great fish musky maniac!! Looks to be a real healthy fish! Fished yesterday at the Moraine Musky Outing....56 guys managed to pull a skunk with not one musky landed during the outing.. Hit the river this afternoon with a buddy from Ellwood.. Managed a 35" trolling a legend perchbait deep over 26 feet of water. Only hit we had, got pushed off the water by the pop up storms and lightning...Had a good week, this is #4 in the boat since last sunday all in 20hrs of fishing. Wish it happened like that more often..

Thanks for the kind words..Musky Maniac hope everything goes good with your sons surgery, i'll say a prayer before bed tonight. The alleghenys the same way with pleasure boaters and jet skis especially on the weekends. I just have a 14' grumman and theres some boats out there throwing 3'ers and criss crossing and running a muck. They basically show no common courtesy but its only 3 months a year so i deal with it. The heat is pushing me to slow down a little now, i had 80 to 84 deg surface temps today which is a little to hot for my liking. The fish hit the net and had the hooks out and a pic and back within a minute and a quick water measurement. I worry it can stress the fish pretty quick in this warm water, i loved last summer where i never water over 76 deg and didn't have to deal with 90 deg heat throughout the day.

ya same here..i fish out of a 09 17ft tracker dont have much problems with wakes but make it very annoying i like to troll certain structures and find myself driving around parked boats on river cause they are swimming. i feel u avid angler i run a video soon as i get a hookup do all my work inside big frabill do quick measure on bump board stand up and back in water.. i just pull pics off the video so there is no time wasted to pose for pic, the 48 swam away quickly and straight down.. this is what worries me about new anglers taking too long with fish and stresses them cause even if they swim off they usually float back up a little later from the stress. its a time to be very careful with these temps muskys stress very easily, so anyone new to musky fishin please take notice.

Yeah thats definitely the best thing to do. Always great to see them swim off strong and give you the tail wave goodbye. I've thought about doing the video thing but haven't got around to it. I fish alone often and if no ones around i dont even get pics cause my camera always manages to screw me with the self timer setting. I have plenty of photos with fish half way out of the net or me reaching into the net. I need to invest in a new camera soon cause mines on its last legs, gonna look for one thats not to expensive and one with a good selftimer setting.

i fish bymyself mostly also, i bought a camera pole and put camera on it soon as drag goes off i just push start to record, that way u video whole battle then just pick fish up wave it in front of camera, then just pull pics from video its nice. then i edit the videos and put em on dvd, matter of fact me and my son just got done watchin all of this yrs catches including todays on dvd. when i take someone and they get one like there first i video it and put it on dvd for them then they can relive their catch anytime they want.

My brothers and I fixed up our 14' starcraft just to start fishing the rivers more. We always left our boat up at Pymatuning to fish there, Erie, Tamarack, Woodcock, ect. I see alot of you gents are solid regulars when it comes to Esox on the rivers. Not looking for a hot spot, but if someone could just lead me in the right direction on river muskies. Trolling, casting.... I assume looking for ambush points is the same? I was planning on going up to Lock 3 this weekend for walleye and smallies, but wanted to spend a solid half day for muskies. Any info welcome. Thanks in advance!

Trolling would be your best bet fish that are being caught trolling are being caught trolling 4.5 to 5.5 mph what river are you planning to fish?

I was thinking lock3 up the allegheny. There is a launch right at deer creek, and it is pretty close to the dam. Actually very close. My second option is glenfield lauch to hit the back channel on the ohio. Both are about the same distance drive for me. I have plenty of trolling plugs, but I also have ton of in-line spinners (dbl cowgirls & showgirls). This first time around though I would like to stick with on approach. (casting or trolling)
Thanks again!

Trolling is a good way to cover lots of water quick you can always go back and cast a spot that looks good trolling allows you to learn a new area fast and I like to troll first then cast later on new water that way I don't waste time trying to figure out where good structures are

If you r going to fish for walleyes and smallies too I would fish for them during mid day I personally don't fish for other species when I'm planning on musky fishing cause I once put down my musky rod to fish for bass and had a mid 40 follow my rapala in boy was I mad from that day on I only take the musky rods. Good luck

I use to be Tacklebuster on here. I fished the allegheny on Wed had 3 follows and 2 misses. Usually always have at least on follow on the allegheny.

Nope purebred. The stripes tend to fade once they hit low to mid 30" range.

I'll give advice on lures and colors for the allegheny. Keep your colors bright with some contrast, firetigers, chartruese and black, orange and black and jailbird. I run some natural colors later in the season but typically bright is where its at this time of year with the visibility. If your gonna cast, burn the blades and make good figure 8s at the boat, i hook more fish boatside on blades then i do on the initial retrieve. If they aren't moving on blades throw jerkbaits and work them fast too. Leos are my favorite but reef hawgs and suicks catch fish too. If you got some bulldawgs i wouldnt be afraid to let them fly either. Towards evening throw prop topwater baits on a medium fast retrieve. Like MUSKYJUNKY said if your unfamiliar with the area and structure trolling would be more likely to put fish in the boat just try to find some decent structure or good bait pods and work them over, hang one lure high and put one down low too. Good luck!
