Wadin' the Bay
Saw lots of fisherman wading the bay saturday when I took a walk around presque isle. Was wondering if anyone has been doing well wading, planning to give it a try tomorrow since Im off work. Shoot me a message if anyone would like some company or has any advice, I've stayed in the lagoons thus far and would appreciate any help.

Do better wading than in a boat most times.

Try the flats between the marina and the monument. The smallies are there and hitting all kinds of stuff.

My fav (for this spot at this time of year) is a small olive colored tube jig under a float, tipped with a little worm if you aren't too proud.

Didnt get any bites in the bay throwing spoons. Maybe I should have tried some plastics? It seemed like the flats were pretty barren other than some giant carp... at least the guy with the fly rod confirmed there were a few fish to be caught. Wasn't complete blowout though, got some small bass on semkos around the lagoon launch and a fairly large one on a motor oil/red powerworm.

waded the bay tonight caught some bass mostly largemouth with one smallie. 1 3 pounder but the rest were fairly small. the bite is getting better again as it seems the spawn is winding down finally

Hit the bay again this evening after 5pm. Fished for a good hour throwing everything I had at them without any bites. Finally found the right lure and hooked 3 in about 15min, the 3rd broke my lure off when I grabbed the leader to release it. :-( I dont think they even make the lure anymore but I stopped at gander mtn and stocked up on similar things afterwards. Gonna give it another go in the morning I think

picked up about 14 more smallies in the bay today including one pretty big one and a couple in the 4-5 pound range. probably head out again in the morning to see if they are still biting

I doubt im the 'dude' your talking about. I see alot of people wading out among the boats including a couple of guys who didnt even bother with waders and were out even further than I cared to go. I just started fishing the bay about a week ago but you could have seen me since I was out there 3 different days since.

Oh... and to answer your question JamesD, The flats is the area to the right side of the perry monument. The water is fairly shallow there and you can wade a good hundred yards off from shore and fish the edge of the deeper water.

Thanks. We where out today, lots of jacka**es going in and out the channel. We did ok, could be better. No Pike just follow the lures and then turn around.

Looks like your doing pretty well for yourself BeherendFisher. Continue to explore the bay...and every year will get better. Another suggestion I have for you...keep track of your good days on a calender or by timestamp on your photos. Next year you'll know when and where to head. Congtrats duud!

if you're getting a follow on pike, just let your lure stop and fall for a little then pick it up and move it with a jerky motion. Or carry a baseball bat.

Went out to fish the bay after the storm but decided it was a bit too choppy for comfort after i got out a ways. Retreated to misery bay and picked up some largemouth instead including 2 really nice sized ones. Semkos were the ticket and missed far more bites than I would have liked to.
