Reel cleaning

I dropped my reel in some muddy sandy water over the weekend and it is not very functional right now .  Does anyone have any suggestion on how to clean it and get it working good again?  Thanks for any help.

What kind of reel is it spinning/baitcast? Sounds like your going to have to strip it. If your able to i would strip it down clean it out and re-grease it with all new grease and oil.

Take it all apart, wipe dry off all the parts and lightly spray it all down with WD-40 and re-grease.

Ok thanks for the help, I figured I would have to take it all apart.  Sounds like some wd 40 will be the way to go.
