wear those PFD's

Went fishing, caught a smallie, fought the wind with a fly rod, flipped the kayak. Hit some class 3+'s, straight rapids for at least 100 yards.  Believe me these were not the ones you just float thru, I was sitting in my kayak looking at waves at eye level....nowhere to go but straight.  Flipped.  Swam to shore and somehow kept hold of my swamped boat, thankfully had a paddle leash.  First time I tested the wading belt, and it did what it was supposed to do. I hoofed it back to the car and went back to pick up the kayak...one flip was enough.  The water was cold and that wind didn't help.

Scared the shizz outta me.  This was my first time flipping in current like that.  You dont even have a second to react...hit rock...turn sideways....flip...kayak fills...swim...

Today is a good day sit on the couch

Can honestly say for the first time ever I'm glad I wore mine also... can't imagine the outcome of our day if we didn't have them on in that current with waders on. I was in the middle of the river and I had a hell of a time getting back to dry land. Feel like I got the $hit kicked out of me.

    glad you brahs are ok...

willy joseph just came out with a new type of waders that have emergency floation devises or something built in.  pretty crazy, though they're not coast guard approved.
when i did a yough trip last summer i wore a wakeboarding PFD, was terrible to wear while fishing.
i've been eyeing up some of those more streamlined ones for this summer.  my swimmies dont fit anymore.
