Weapons of Bass Destruction

So since I recently started fishing presque isle for bass, I have started to accumulate some lures to use.

I currently carry the following while I'm wading:

Its mostly cleos and rapalas with the exception of a few soft grubs and the zara spook. I also picked up the wild eyes soft swim baits today because they looked pretty slick.

Anyone else care to share what they have been carrying around?

I keep it pretty simple. I carry a few rapalas, hot steel color and a perch one, a minnow spinner, a couple Wildeyes (white and perch), and then 4-5 beaver tail tube jigs (maroon).

One disclaimer to my selection: I am fishing a white water river for smallies.

After 5 years, I have narrowed down to those 8-10 pieces. No need for anything else. :)

Cool thread title! Good choices BF. Looks like your figuring out what works for you. As b**** stated, a spinnerbait would be good addition. May I also suggest a buzzbait or two. Either of those can be whipped into the weeds, and draw alot of attention.

    Good Luck!

    I choose Little Cleos

    donno much about smallie fishing
but for Lg Mouth, it's mostly soft plastics in my bass pack.

NIce collection BF . I have a good arsenal of soft plastics to go along with the stuff you show as well. Ive said this before and Ill say it again. My go to bass bait is a 5 - 6 inch purple worm. Rigged weedless and weightless. Its a true KILLER for me.

I was throwing a weightless grub thing (it had a bunch of tails) made by Yum today, it was Gobee colored. I had a bunch of bass come up and completely inhale it within the first inch or two of it sinking. I had trouble getting my hook set though. I really don't like throwing plastics, I am completely lost as to how to fish them once I lose sight of the actual bait in the water. I never seem to tell if something has ahold of it.

You have to be a line watcher. Basically keep an eye on your line where it is in contact with the water. Sometime you feel the bite and sometimes you dont. When you dont feel the bite your line can be an indicator. See the twitch and slowly pick up the slack , if there is tension the fish has got it and set the hook. Some times the line just swims away, just set the hook. If your not sure just set the hook.

Any time I have seen bass hit my plastics they just pick it up and drop it in the same spot. Maybe its more of an exploratory bite than an aggressive one. Guess I just need to get more time on the water using them.

Too much time in the sun today, I think my bright red glow will scare off the fish now

My go to is x-rap 6 glass ghost. When fishing weightless plastics I watch the line hard,But I go for ripping a lip or two if I see any sudden twitch or different movement from regular line fall. And a definate DITTO for the jitterbug tip, nothing like a good topwater strike, especially when it's dark or close to it.
That being said you look like you're pretty much ready to go.Good luck, and TIGHT lines.

How are you supposed to fish a popper? Is it a steady retrieve while constantly jerking the rod tip a reel, jerk, pause, jerk, jerk, reel, etc. cadence?

there is no wrong way to retrieve a popper. IMO, Just mix it up and find out what works best. Slow or Fast or in between.

Now how does everyone go about rigging a senko? I have read they are a magic bass finding bait but do not have any or any idea how to fish them. Already learned some about fishing plastics because I am terrible at knowing when a fish has it or not. Now I know I need to watch the line better.

Texas rig with a 3/0 to 5/0 EWG hook (depending on size of senko), no weight. Cast it out, let it sink, if you feel tension you probably have a fish.
One note of caution, bass are notorious for swallowing senko style baits. Keep in contact with your line and set the hook if you feel tension.

    ana,

Do you find that the wacky rig results in alot of torn off/destroyed/lost worms? It just seems to me like that'd be the case, but I've never tried it.

Sorry, I know not addressed to me, but... I just read a good way to take care of this in one of the various fishing mags I get....

They recommend using rubber o-rings you'd find at the hardware to secure your worm to the hook. I sized them up & found 3/8" ID O-ring for 5" senkos and 5/16"ID for the 4" worms work good. Being that the worm isn't 'hooked'...if you get snagged, none of the violence of trying to get it out is transfered to the worm. Usually stays on.

Also, another trick they suggest is sticking a brad nail in the head of the worm. This keeps it more vertical & lets the tail 'wag' in the current. Also gives a little faster fall. Sometimes good, sometimes not.

    Been working good for me.

Edit: Google 'o-ring wacky worm' to see an example...(and you don't need an o-ring rigging tool.)
