Bass and pike lures

Hey guys. I am starting to fill my first tackle box (thank you Bingsbaits) full of fishing lures. We mostly like to fish for bass and pike. Which lures do you think works best for both?

You rip some lips...I'll break some jaws!

VP For both Im going to have to say a floating rapala. And for these reasons. You can retrieve it in many speeds , fast and slow, with jerks and twitches for lots of action. Or you can use the same lure as a top water bait. With similar action as it floats make it look like an injured bait fish and the bass crush it. My .02 cents.

Good luck and tight lines duud.

Your welcome.....Your dad did me a "Solid" just returning the favor....

Spoons and Spinners on the Pike...
Gotta have at least 1 topwater just for the fun of the strike.
For the bass kinda hard to beat a Rapala....

My #1 one lure if fishing for both is the Storm WildEye's in the 3" sz. A 3 pack is about $4

A white spinnerbait has been my fish catcher so far this year. Terminator makes a nice one. My best pike lure has been a Xrap in silver (which is black on top, silver on bottom). Always have to have some kind of top water whether its a buzzbait, popper, or walk the dog style.  You just missed out on the Spring classic sale at BP. Thats when I stocked up, check out the sales FishUsa is having also.

My favorites are a smallish X-rap (nearly any color, though the "uglies" seem to work best for me...clown, purples, etc). Try any variation of a retrieve you can think of.

Bright silvery chrome floating rapala. This should always be on hand. A real go-to.

The classic 7" Power Worm (Tequila Sunrise, Black, and Motor Oil). Murky water or sluggish bass. Also a very versatile bait, depending on how you rig it. Texas, carolina, weightless finesse, etc.

And last but not least, drop-shotted baitfish soft plastics.

I've used Zoom flukes and 2 & 3" berkley minnows here. For me, this is a somewhat specialized techniqe that I use only when I'm in a boat. I like it for fishing water that's deep, or off-color, as well as when I know there's fish deep that arent rising in the water column. Last summer I found another use for drop-shot in shallow water: bass were chasing schools of baitfish right up to the shore in extremely shallow water, picking off stragglers. I tossed my rig near those shallows and let it settle. The next time I saw the baitfish coming out of the water, I lifted my rod a few times to get the bait to kick up mud and become visible. I instantly hooked a 20" largemouth and have used that tactic several times since then.

    bLu PowErBayt DuuD!

On a more serious note, some good ones mentioned above...a couple I might add to the list:

Bass - The Bass Stopper Magnum worm...I like the 3 hook weedless in PURPLE, it goes anywhere...bass candy.
Pike - BIG double willow blade spinners & the Bigger of the red devil spoons

I also love the storm wildeye baits but just wish they would last a little longer. Try the storm wildeye pike for the pike. Tend to lose the tail often though. Any suggestions for fixing em or keepin the tails on longer would be appreciated.

Another fav. of mine for bass is a texas-rigged Gary yamamota bait or zoom toad. Ive fished both of these well and really prefer them weightless. The day often depicts the bite for me and whether I use weight. Sometimes its on the fall and sometimes I just soak em awhile and wait for the bass to pick em up. Then again a good twitch can also provoke a strike, just harder to feel when the fish picks em up. The fish always seem to strike during the twitch for me and I tend to lose more fish with this approach.

I love anything topwater at night. Cast to target, twitch a bit, silence, wait a bit and then the explosion of that bass on your lure. Awesome!!! Ya just cant go wrong with topwater at night. Even the misses get the blood pumpin just as long as there less than the hook-ups.

Poppers are fun also and few of them should decorate your box as well.

Good Luck and enjoy the fishin. Sorry most of my baits are for bass, should of read your post better.

Hey PIKE.  We're gonna be in Erie May 7th-9th.  Think you and your dad could meet up with us?  I have a few lures and a rod that could use a good home.  It's not a great rod, but it's OK.  It's the first rod I ever built and it needs to catch some fish.....can you help?

Thank you everybody... This helps me so much and gives me a really good place to start. Now i won't be going into this blind and will have a really good idea. So thanks again everyone for the help. My dad is a little spoon happy, and I think I might like to try something different.

Mr. Trout About, that is a very nice offer and i can't thank you enough. I'm going to ask my dad if it's ok with him so again thank you very much.

If Violentpike [ or anyone ] is looking for lures no longer made , E-bay has them all the time . Type in "discontinued fishing lure " . I've obtained several [ for my collection ] at extremely reasonable prices . LMAO at many of the lures in my box that are no longer made . Yes , I suppose this could have been a different thread , but I thought it might be helpful .

Did you try the Moto-Minnow I gave to your dad? I wonder how many fish that thing will catch before the pike and bass smash it to pieces.
