Thompson Bay

I have fished PI bay and the lake for years, but have never fished Thompson bay. I have read about the wading opportunities, but is it also boat friendly? I have a 17ft deep V. Does it get weed choked later in the season?

Thanks,
Jerry

Thompson Bay is great for Gar.  I pounded quite a few out of there last year with a fly rod.  By mid summer it is a weed field.

With the water level now you probably will not be able to get into the back bay. Even out by beach 11 it is real shallow. I was there last week and I only draw 1ft with my Parker 18 and it was tough getting to the hole in front of the swimming area. I know last year when water was higher just could get in back bay.

Thanks to all for the information. I think I will pass on Thompson bay. With the great spring fishing in PI bay there is no need to go elsewhere.

If you circle around and hug the pennisula shoreline its possible. watch for shallow
sand dunes, better yet use a minn kota.
did it twice this year, tons of carp back there, hard to not snag one throwing cranks and spinners.
lost 2 crankbaits after accidently hitting BIG carp. Last week we used plastics and did'nt have any trouble snagging into carp, only caught 2 dink largemouth.

my friend emailed me a few pictures from yesterday morning, I dont think he would appreciate me posting them on here.
He had a few nice largemouths caught on the sand flats but said he had a huge musky follow right to the boat. He knows the diff between a musky and pike so I trust his word.
carp were thick back there but the female bass are there also.
was thinking maybe a push pole would get you back in there, like they use in florida.
anyone know where you could find one in erie?

What difference would a pic make now that you told everyone where's he fishin?

I'm sure he'll thank you for that

The push pole you are looking for may be available via FishErie. I got mine thru Gander Mountian. It is a combination oar/push pole. It is extendable and made from aluminum (sp). It has two attachements that snap on the end. It works great in my Jon/jet boat. It is 4' long colapsed and extends to 12'. I would suggest searching FishErie for "push Pole". Another suggestion is to team up with a guy that has a Jet Drive flat bottom boat. I can run in water 4" deep, thats the good part. Bad part is it doesn't like waves/rollers much over 1'. Nothing is perfect.

Gosh, Thompson Bay. Never had any success there whatsoever. I never fish it anymore. I have the exact same thing from a few fisherman much more talented and experienced than I.

Alright alright, Fishburgh. However, when looking at a map of Presque Isle Bay I find that anywhere where there is blue on the map is a productive area. Although, I like the overall structure of Thompson Bay, I have a lot more success working Marina Lake, casting Rapalas off of the West Pier, and fishing the melting pot known as the North Pier.

Or is that only for stillheads?

I thought about the spotburn thing. I don't think it is. Presque isle is big. Marina Lake is large. West pier is underappreciated, imo, however I have never fished west pier for steelies. Any good? I wait for the smallies. What are your thoughts, bulldog? Am I spotburning? You're the vet, and I am the new guy, so I don't know.

Its not a spot burn to name marina lake, misery ,horseshoe or thompson.
just spots on streams and other smaller areas IMO.

dUUd, I dont post here for your enjoyment. If everyone that annoyed me on here stopped posting, the site traffic would take a 60% cut. Learn to live with it, or learn to click the ignore button.

I've read plenty close, and unlike you, I'm not posting secondhand here-say info. I've fished there. Fairly recently. Small bass and uninterested carp. Better luck on the piers. I'm sorry that you didn't catch it the first time. Maybe someone else has done better, but when I went I fished a long time and caught just a few dink LM. I really would recommend a pier over TB.

I thought even you could have gathered that from my other posts...in spite of what kind of guy you may or may not be.

OK, I was just trying to save you some embarrassment. I see you need to come back at me, maybe
to save face with your friends who read this.
I really dont want to argue it any further.
Go ahead and reply back, save face, whatever. I didnt mean to embarrass you.
I will let you win. Have at it!

I think pier, boat, thompson, millcreek, pretty much anywhere in the bay is good for bass.
