Thanks everybody...this is his first "real" year out. I'm hoping to... as someone else recently said....to take him from "kid on the pier with a worm"...to "fisherman" this year. Lots of learning this summer..

Yeah, bring the sMaL dUUd with ya.

I see that while you've taught him much, you haven't taught him that awesome smile that Glen taught you.

If I get up there to fish with yinz this weekend, def. let the kid decide where and what to fish.

Only problem you have now Slick is to make sure V P has his homework done before you go fishing or you will have a huge WAR with Mrs.Slick when you get home. And I know you dont want that now do you?

Besides if you get grounded from fishing who else am I gonna pick on out there on the water, da snapping turtles or your BEAVER?

Nice pics...love them Pike. Is that all you use, Cleos? I'm hoping to get to fish there in a week or so...I hope the Pike still have the feed bag on..

It's not all I use...but where conditions allow, IMO nothin' beats a cleo. Its definitely my goto choice...I've been fishin em for 30 yrs, confidently....which is WHY they work for me.

If you were 100% sure you could catch a fish on  bike tire, I believe you would.

I do change the flavors (colors), but 90% of the time...I'm whippin' spoons. I've caught nearly every species available (slobs I might add) in my area with em.

I figure I'll see 1000's of blue spoons in the bay summer....I hope ya'll get more and bigger fish than me...I look forward to the "I whacked it on a cleo" posts.

BUST EM UP!

PS...VP has been super impressed with all the kind words he's recieved. Been a real confidence boost...thanks for that.

Yea I use a lot of cleos too. I got 30 years worth. I got some weird colors. They just suck to use when the weeds are up because of the treble hooks. I wonder if they're whackin topwaters yet.Pike on a buzzbait is a rush. Taking the boat for it's maiden voyage at Moraine to work all the bugs out then I'll try to plan an Erie trip. Can't wait.

Here's my thoughts on that....

Yes...trebles always clooect weeds...and I have to deal with that evey cast, some spots they are thick already. You have options.

A) Change the treble to a single. I use that later in the year, or in excessively weedy area's...helps alot.

B) I got trebles and weeds broke down to a hand/eye science. I'll put A spoon where duuds wouldnt think of runnin one. When I feel my lure catch some weeds...I snap it through there....violently....then I will give a few additional stiff twitches, straight above my head to shake off excess weeds. Often I need to repeat this process 3-4 times per 40 yard cast...but it works for me.

My thoughts on topwater....

That is my favorite way to bust fish...probably everybody's. We all love to see that fish come out of the water after it.  However....I don't fish topwater till a little later in the year. My "own" experience is that warmer water is needed b4 topwater is a plan...thats JMO opinion though...I ain't even tried it this year.

Since I'm burnin up my own post (sorry)....I would like to take this oppprotunity to tell yinz this...I'm gonna give my kid an account, and closely monitor what he gets to read, and post. It's "supposed" to b pg13 anyway...but I'm super guilty of breakin that rule. I'm not asking anyone to change thier posting style, just keep in it mind....My kid had heard foul langage....seen goth chiks...and is smart enuff....to know when it's enuff...and close it out on his own. Thanks!

Hit it this morning there with topwaters..
3 Bass on top and lost a large Pike on a "      ".

Stopped at the first parking lot for a bit. Should have seen the guys out drifting in the Bass boat when I waded out past them to hit the weed bed.

It was on fire last night Slick.  Thought you might sneek out anyway.  The place was dead except for the three of us, and the 100 or so carp bustin out everywhere.  About a dozen bass between us and the 30 plus inch pike I took on a black clouser.  I'll send you the pic.
