Shoreline Walleyes

Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am interested in in coming up for the early season shore fishing for walleyes. I am not looking for anyone to spot burn but would appreciate lure/bait types, retrieve speeds, sizes of lures/bait.

Thanks
Mike

    night-time is best..

big plugs work too, but rapala's are where it's at

you can also catch big spring eyes in the bay.. all along the bayfront casting at night

i agree with all so far.ive used the fire tiger, rainbow and chartruese(green)rapala's and they all work.ive never had much luck with the jointed raps though.bomber used to make an excellent lure which they dont make anymore.it was shad colored with an orange stripe up the white belly.also had a rattle inside.if anyone knows if anyone makes these somewhere ,please let me know here.

Has the shoreline walleye bite already started or not? I have never heard a good indicator of when it starts. Any water temp or something like that to tell?

get a good hat lamp too... you do not need a latern unless your really scared of the dark... but theres always one and they wonder why nothing bites. If you get the right night, keep it dark, and keep the volume of convo down low... they'l come right up close to shore chasen and slrupn.

I would plan a few days if you're coming from a distance.  Check on the lake forecast before coming.  You wouldn't want to come up and find 6 foot waves rolling in.  It's also very hit and miss.  One day the bite is on, the next it never happened.  You really need to put your time in.  But if you do hit it right, it's very good.

Since the weather doesn't look real promising to be out on the lake Saturday how many of "yinz" are going to try the shore line thing?

    key word: "yinz"

facts, lake too rough for boating = too rough for shoreline walleye.

also worth mention, you have at least 2-3 weeks before its even worth a shot.

    By all means, come mup'..............

Not if its a wind with a southerly component.  Shoreline and nearshore will most likely be doable.  Haven't looked at the forecast though.

J-18 is right on. I don't think color matters. Slower you reel the better. The bigger fish are earlier in the year. I've caught them behind me while wading so that tells you how close they come in. No lights !

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

that hog walleye I caught near dobbins was at night on MOTHERS DAY...

so now is probably a good time..

Also, that eye was bigger than any eye I ever caught on a boat in Lake Erie...

was a pig.. took 2 guys with a net to lift it up the wall.. lol

    go git em!

Have ya noticed over the past couple decades the decline of smelt. But the emphasis on steel-head stocking ? My theory is the steel-head have decimated the smelt in the lake. Oh and the walleye were really dependent on that food source. HMMMMM makes me wonder. Ive never tasted a steel-head that would even compare to walleye. Keep on stocking the trout or maybe start a viable walleye program. Maybe I should get used to the fact or not. Remember to put lots of steel-head in the garden they grow great produce.
