Bear Sightings

I got home from fishing last night around 10pm and decided to make a burger on the grill before bed. As I opened the door to my deck there was a bear at my bird feeder! I grab my handheld spotlight and watched him wander off into the small patch of woods. I never got a great look, but he appeared to be a sizable bear. The surprising part of this story was that this was in Allegheny Co.!

It seems like in the last few years bears are becoming more and more common around here. I really don't undertstand why, but there is no doubt they are here in the area to stay. I had one (a male I think) on a trail cam last year, and my neighbor routinely was seeing a mom and 3 cubs.

Are any of you other guys having any encounters?

Esox I believe we live relatively close to each other. I'm just across the line by the bridge over the river. There have been several sightings recently and I have a couple on trail cam from last year....we are going to see our first bear killed in Alleg. Co. in the next few years.

A couple years ago Channel 4 and Channel 11 news were in my neighborhood chasing down the story of my one neighbor chasing a 150-200 lbr through the neighborhood with a handgun.  This was western westmoreland co right along Rte. 30.  The turnpike widening project must have spooked it our way.  I was at work but the news crews were in the plan that evening.

I have seen bear tracks in West Deer Twp. while hunting.  Saw several yotes up that way while archery hunting too.

I usually see 3-4 per year up here along the Crawford / Venango county border....none yet this year though.

    And I haven't killed one...yet.

I had to check jk, (not because I didn't believe you, just that it's hard to believe) none have come out of Allegheney county.
    Truth.
    Surprising.

jk, as long as we are talking about the same river then we are very close.

eyes, I am in a twp bordering West Deer. I have seen a number of yotes in local areas.

I just threw my cam back up, hopefully he will visit again soon and smile for the camera. I also found a nice pile of scat he left me as a present.

Here was the culprit from last year.

EH same river take a walk on the riverbank steep, but you'll be amazed at the activity.

Seen one in archery two years back up our camp at Pymatuning near Espyville. At first I didn't know what to make of it, and then I remembered, holy @#$% that's a bear! From what I hear though there are a bunch in the area now and heard of quite a few sightings.

they are becoming more common... southern Clarion Co, at my Mom's farm, they see them frequently and their coon hound and Airedale treed 3 of them a couple of years ago...
I'm in northern Indiana Co and see sign of them around my yard, piles of scat under the oak trees after they drop their acorns. the rule is that NO food or drink cups left outside and the dogs can't even go out loose at night.

**** thing was back again Saturday night. He must of been holding a grudge against the bird feeder, even though we took all the seed off of it he still ripped the thing down. It was on a 1/2" steel pole, not that I really thought that would have slowed him down much.
