For me..the debate is over

Braid vs anything else...for me the debate is over. I've been reading all the posts, reposts, input, debates, and general thoughts on braid. I've always fished mono...with relatively no problems...and didn't really see the need for "change".

One of our own, knew I wasn't going to buy a spool to "try" for myself. He was so confident in braid, he bought me a spool of 20 lb power pro. Helluva guy. I spooled it up this weekend and put it to the test.

I drug it through weeds and rocks, I fished it deep and shallow, I caught big and little fish on it. It felt good on my fingers...soft. It casted smoothly on a spin rig, never lashed. It was super-sensitive, I felt every fish tick and weed. It is hella strong, I straightened my snap swivel before the line broke.

And the sound of it whining through the guides as the line ripped off a smokin' drag...music to my ears.

For the types spring/summer/fall fishin I do...I see this being a really good versitile line. I'm sold.

I posted this to reccommend any one who has been on the fence about this to give it a shot. You'll be hooked.

Thanks to my generous bud...your seat is always open.

Slick

I used Spiderwire braid years ago for bass fishing.
NOTHING is more sensitive and supple than braid.
i used it for a couple years...I nearly sawed thru a guide on one rod... (fo-reel)

One day i took a friend fishing.
We were on a small private lake I knew had nice bass.
I gave him one of my rods that was spooled with 6pnd mono.
I was using my favorite bass rod spooled with 10 pound Spiderwire.
I was the experienced bass angler, he was a rookie.

i rigged his rod  the same way..the only difference was the braided line.
he was catching bass 3 to my one.
we traded rods, and i started catching more than him

the only thing I can conclude, was the braided line caused the lack of bites.
water was clear and we were fishing a large underwater hump no more than 10ft deep
    finesse fishing plastics

I've never felt anything like it before. Slick let me try his setup with the braided line and it was hyper-sensitive and smooth as glass. Sorry I had to pull that one out in front of you with your own setup Slick

you get real fast tying uni-uni splices if you fish braid in clear water. problem solved. i have braid on nearly all my rods now, tried it for steel over winter w about a 3ft flouro leader, and got skunked all morning, swithced to my spool of all flouro and hooked up in twenty minutes. coincidence? i have no idea. i dont get to fish there enough to try more often, but i would think that if 1/8" thick neon orange fly line doesnt spook em nothing would

Since this thread got bumped up, might as well ask a ?.  I put some stress to this line. I mean ALOTTA STRESS....for days. Now my green line is turning white in places. It Still performs well.

Is this a problem or a natural evolution for the line?

    Thanks

    It happens.

Basically the dye is coming out. The line is still completely structurally sound though. If it makes you feel better, you CAN recolor it with a permanent marker, but it's just as strong now as they day you took it out of the box. Regular use and UV light fade the line normally, though.

I have never had a braid that keeps it color all that well.  The worst for me was fireline, love the line, but if you run the line thru your fingers for just a couple turns of the handle and you would have black lines on your fingers.

It's kinda like those blue indicator on some of the razors nowadays.. it starts blue but then gets white to make you think that you need to replace it and go buy more. but in reality, its still sharp as fk!

Never fished with braid, I been using Yo-zuri (Hybrid ultra soft) on my 6 and 12lb lines... But I honestly have to say I love 4lb P-Line halo.. But i'm not 100% sure if I can even use braid on my reels or even my loomis rods for that matter...

Always thought you needed special guides for rods for braid, and would a steez hold up to braid is the other question?

But i'm not 100% sure if I can even use braid on my reels or even my loomis rods for that matter...

When high performance braids first came out they cut the guides.
Now they are smoother and slicker.
This is also why you need to use the correct knots.

What knots are you referring to? Line to line knots? I still really can't tie any of those.

I just tied my snapswivel to the braid with an improved clinch... It's really the only knot I know....Still looks good a week later.

If I ever felt the need to run a mono /floro leader, I'd probably just use a barrel swivel inbetween..

(that's how my flyline is tied to my leader as well...)

the palomar is what i use to tie braid to terminal tackle(swivel, hook, or lure) first learned it first time i bought fire line, its really the easiest knot i now know how to tie. its also the knot you should use to tie tandem rigs in non-braid. never had guides cut either and i use braid on rods w ceramic guides and ti-coated stainless. i have had trilene knots slip out with braid and my dad experienced all his line on the spool spin on the spool(without the drag turning) because he didnt use backing. on a side note, use strong line for backing, first time i spooled up my big cat rod i thought i'd be slick and use 4lb backing and 20 lb braid(to fit more braid on the reel and still have mono to grip the spool) fell asleep while night fishing, woke up and only had backing on the reel and a fish that ate a 7" blugill about 350yd away.... lost the fish.
