50yd pattern

i put togethier what i think might be a good deer/turkey gun. its a rem 870 12 ga. with a 20" imp cyl smoothbore barrel thats equiped with fiber optic sights and removable choke tubes. it also wears a 1.5 - 4.5 bushnell scope and synthetic stock. i sighted the scope with slugs for 50yds. then swaped out the imp choke for an xtra full hastings turkey choke. ive tried 3" rem #4 and 3" rem #5. both of the patterns were well centered in the target/cardboard i was shooting at. but how many bb's would you consider is a good enough to kill a bird at that range? (i know it only takes one) thanks

I was always told three at that range will do the trick and ive shot a turkey at 55 and killed it with one bb  just hit the neck or head and that will put them down, and i use a single shot mod. with 3 inch 5 shot win supreme and ive gotten a turkey ever since i was 12.

my side by side 10 ga. will put 7-8 in the head and neck consistently @70 yards. @ 50 I get between 15 & 20. Heavi shot, regular full choke.

Didn't say I would shoot that far, just that I could.

My ten is more than lethal at 65. But at that distance it's really not turkey calling, its shooting.

    Same here.......

If he's not inside 40 yds I won't shoot. I don't really care all that much about shooting one anymore, calling them in, just being in the woods, all of that is what excites me.

Just be sure of your pattern if you plan on poking at one more than 40 yds. I've seen too many birds wounded with the 835 era 3.5 inch guns and hunters who failed to learn the capabilities of their guns and patterns.

ok thanks guys. i figured 50 yds would be an extreme distance. maybe i shoulda said 40. i was at a public range that was very crowded. it was either 25 0r 50. youre not allowed to set up for ranges in between. i more than likely will have a 25yds shot or closer. i just was wondering. to the guyshooting a 10 ga, wow!!!! that seems like an awesome bird gun. if it will do that at 70 imagine what it will do at 20.
