Shed Hunting

Have enjoyed this forum for quit a while and thought I should share a good morning with you fellow hunters. My 5 year old and I were needing to burn off some cabin fever. So we hit the woods today around the house to try some shed hunting. Good sign was present as far as droppings so I knew we were in a good spot. Within 10 minutes I found the small 3 point. We were both fired up and about 20 minutes later he found the bigger three point all on his own. He spotted it ~ 10 yards ahead of him. I think we are hooked on shed hunting or at least until the ice melts and we can start restocking our pan fish supply!

I had my best day ever shed hunting on Sunday in the rain. I found a total of six and a bonus dead 8 point. The 8 point skull was rather smelly, especially as I was twisting it off the spine. I found all of these sheds in the pine trees. By the way I was hunting in Ohio--not Pa.

    Nice finds!
    Way to go.
My boy & I had the same idea, but weren't as successful as you guys.
We did find where the bear $#it in the woods though. He spotted a chipmunk & "shot it" before I even saw it...I hear: "CHIPMUNK/BANG!!" really loud (he's 3) lol...did the same with a mole in the field...kids. Good fun.

I got two more yesterday 3/16/2010. I was only able to get out for about two hours, but I found a big 8--gonna be a 10 next year. Looking forward to hopefully finding the left side for a matched set.

Joker and I went out again last night, all we came up with was a skull, that had already dropped, and looks like died of old age, was there awhile. But still no drops

I saw one last night that also still had a rack. Don't know what it was, but big enough to see at night. The new one's will push them off if they have to.

Nice! Must be recent--looks like no chew marks. I am pretty much done unless I find some while morel hunting. I had my best shed season ever finding a total of 14 and a dead 8 point. It seems really hard to find antlers from these late bucks as they are feeding over a larger area. I know there are antlers still in the unplowed fields, but without a quad they are hard to find. Too much walking plus now it is walleye season for me.
