We ice fished right outside the break wall saturday morning then jigged the spillway all day! It was me and my brother. We didn't get a bite, but we figured if anyone would have seen an eye then there would be 20 platforms up the wall and 40 A-O's fishing over each others backs only letting their buddies in. If they shut the spillway down for early walleye, guess who to thank? I couldn't agree more with you guys. We figured this would be the only time we could get close to it without being nudged out. That's when all the people who want something handed to them go out and fish because it's easy to "snag" a walleye! As much as I would love to jig the wall that time of year, why deal with that BS?

Its a shame, it just looks bad! To bad the fish commission just doesn't have the man power to patrol it properly and bust the guys for double dippin and keeping snagged fish. That area should be closed off but it is not so it is what it is. I personaly will get my fishing kicks another way and someplace else. I am sure some of those guys are the same ones that b#*ch about the Amish.

Do any of the guys that back in there with their boats ever do any good vertical jigging or do the guys on the wall have the best chance?

eyes, sure they do.  they use gill nets..................jus't kidding.  back in the mid 70s, i did it a couple of times from the ohio bridge on the causeway.  guys in the boats jigging did catch fish, too.  the water ran red with the wounds on the sides of the walleyes........ratz, just kidding again.  the few fish that i did catch were legitimate.  i just did not like the crowds.

It's been going on since Pymy been a lake( the spillway thing)It's survived years of pounding by boat fishermen,(70's 80's)and now the Amish,so long as both states stock eyes the lake will be ok.I did it in the 70's when the BEAVER was the warden there, the place is way more popular since, people talk about it on the puter.I've also fished from a boat and did well, the key is getting close to an inside corner, without ****ing off the shore guys.Last year I passed on doing it,but this year I make a trip or two.I've got a pile of crappie and big gills in the freezer from ice fishing(Sunday was a wrap for ice),so it's not that big of a deal if I don't make it.

I LIVE A HALF MILE FROM CARP CITY, FISHED THE WIRE SIDE YEARS AGO FOR EYES. ANYONE WHO CALLS THIS FISHING IN MY OPINION IS NOT A SPORTSMAN OR SPORTSWOMEN.KNOW SEVERAL GUYS WHO FISH THERE AND RUN THEIR MOUTH ABOUT GETTING THEIR LIMIT AND COMING BACK ONCE OR TWICE A DAY AND GETTING THEIR LIMIT " AGAIN" AINT THAT GREAT!! I LOVE TO EAT FISH TOO. HOPE YOU FEEL GREAT ABOUT YOUR FREEZER.

Many of the large eyes stack up in the cement bathtub at the spillway trying to spawn..
The Rod holders (will not call them fishermen) vertical jig large cicadas and sonars in this school of fish..
They snag the eyes and then keep them...It is the only way some of these yahoos can catch an eye and they try and fill their freezers while they can...

That section of lake should be closed for a month...Luckily them snagging the large breeders has little effect on the lakes walleye population as there is little natural reproduction....

Here's another year of this same old argument. No matter how much we complain, or have complained in the past, this isn't the place that will get anything done to stop it. As some of the guys who agree with that style of fishing will say, " they've been doing it for as long as the lake has been there and it hasn't hurt the walleye fishing yet, has it? " " One area of the lake isn't big enough to hurt it. " And " if i do snag one, i throw it back." If you want to stop this practice, pay a warden to camp out there like they do at Freemont.

I have never been there but some of the posts say the fish cops can't always be there. Why not?? Deputy wardens are paid by the fines they collect. If the problem is as bad as some say, and it probably is,a deputy fish cop should be there 24/7. You fish where the fish are. The fines they collect would more then pay for their time. The Pa Fish Comm. must be really dropping the ball at Pymie!!!...WF

stopped by yesterday. only 3 guys fishing the walls ripping blade baits as hard as they could.

approx. 15 people fishing the shore, 2 guys had approx. 50 perch on the stringer, 2 boats at the cable. hung out for about an hour and didnt see anything of significance caught.

Its probably time for sure. Better get up there and take a number. You might get to fish by next Friday if you get a number today. Unless you know one of the "crew" then you can call ahead for a reservation.

Somethin tells me its ALL been done before there.

Place is a JOKE. Anyone that "flocks" there must be really hard-up for fish. Someone needs to post a recent picture of the zoo. Stevie showin off his bag of ViBes, all the platforms setup on the wall and ofcourse the banjo boy playin in the backround.

i remember 30-some years ago a disgruntled fisherman threatening to throw a coil of barbed-wire into the water below the ohio bridge on the causeway to keep some guys from, what he thought, was illegal snagging.  this topic is always hot in the spring.

Gonna head up this weekend. My buddy talked to the commish two nights ago as he watched his post on the bridge for the next couple of weeks, and he said that the guys on the wall are getting pretty good at netting them before he can tell if they were snagged. But I'm sure if they snagged an eye they would do the honest thing and let it go, right????

Yes,I fished there many nights and days in the past and for the most part,I'd say the fish are released,Matt knows who snags and keeps and who runs there 1st limit home,I've seen him stand there for hours, till he gets his man.The thing I don't like is THE GREY AREA,one warden tells me if the lures on the cheek it's good, another mouth only.If the lures not IN THE MOUTH,I take no chance on a fine, any fish is not worth the 150.00 fine.
