Hoyt Maxxis

90% sure the Hoyt Maxxis is what I am getting? Anyone shooting one? How do you like it?

Anyone shooting the AlphaBurner?

I bought the maxxis 31 70#.I really like it.I read your other post under releases about 90# why do you want to pull that much weight? When i first shot the maxxis it was alot harder to draw them my razortec. You must be a strong guy musky to draw 90# lol.Are you going to shoot this bow everyday day with that kind of weight or just a few times and use it mainly for hunting reasons?

lol telephone poles aren't a bad idea......

Actually I am a KE junkie. If you hit a deer in the chest cavity, KE is not a big factor. My daughter has killed one the last 3 years with her 43 Lb'er.

What I am looking for is the possibility of getting through a shoulder blade on a bad hit. I have no issues drawing that weight as I have been doing it for a long time. I do shoot a winter indoor 3D as well as hunt with the same bow.

More pounds plus heavy arrows = violence. and that can't be a bad thing.

Chicken I really don't think normal strenght has much to do with it. I was able to draw those weights when I was in my early teens because i shot ALOT. I handed one of my 70 # bows one time to an all Big Ten Defensive end from PSU & he couldn't get it back. It is a different set of muscles than are used for anything else, so it is mostly just shooting that does it, I think anyway.

If that d-end couldn't pull 70#, he was a big ****. The primary muscles you need to draw a bow are in your back, something that can be easily conditioned.

Either way, I am interested to hear your opinion on the Maxxis, I will be in the market for a new bow next year and I have always been partial to Hoyts.

Yep. A unique muscle used to pull a bow. Believe it is called "Rhomboideus." The muscle is actually inside the outer muscle below your shoulder blade.. between the backbone and shoulder blade.

I used to shoot year around. Now that I live further from where I shot winter leagues, I crank the bow down in January. And it is cost me to do so. I have tennis balls in every place I spend a legitimate amount of time at.. because I seem to pull this muscle multiple times every winter. The last time I pulled it, I could hardly walk. It was a simple "turn to get the phone" at work. Really. Tennis balls and having someone strong push by shoulder blade towards the socket are the only things that help it. By march, I'm usually okay.

I could just pull my bow back all the time or shoot in the basement I guess. That would keep the muscle loose.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

....(obvious joke about sk and his fondness for tennis BALLS pending)..... I just don't have the heart to do it.

That D end is no ****** trust me. But he had never shot a bow in his life and when you have never used those muscles it is difficult to train them for the first or second draw of a bow ever.

I will keep you guys updated, I am hoping to get the bow in may...finances willing.

All you have to do is bent over rows or dumb bell rows to work that muscle. When i shoot my maxxis alot the center of my back does hurt for a while.I don't worry about that much because when it's game on you could probably draw a 200# bow if you had to.
