South Bay

Went up to visit my mother-in-law in Whitehall and decided to give South Bay a try.  Got a few perch jigging and three pike on tip-ups (largest was 24").  Plenty of ice and quite a few ice fishermen, but not a great deal of action.
Fished Hewlett's in the afternoon and only got perch, but they were good sized.  Gave them to another ice fishermen who said he had caught a couple nice lakers farther out than I was willing to travel walking.  Overall it wasn't a bad day to be out until the wind picked up late in the afternoon.

To tell you the truth I didn't go out too far and take any chances.  Even on Lake Lonely there are some spring holes and under currents that scare me when I'm out on the ice.  Same is true for South Bay and Lake George, as I don't think we have had enough really cold weather to cover some of those spots.
    Better safe than sorry.

Ed:  Nice move.  Take your wife ice fishing on Valentines Day.  That ought to be worth a Moisenite Broach.

    Eagle Crg:

The heart shaped holes cut in the ice did the trick as they looked like Moisenite.
Really helped attract the fish like at the Northern Challenge.
Heard you enjoyed a nice Valentine's Day dinner with your mother-in-law while your wife was away.  So we both saw our mother-in-laws on Valentine's Day.

Glad you had a great VD ..Ed, you must be real good with a spud making heart shaped holes! Wondering though, about unsafe conditions all the way up there? Pardon me for asking but, I know down here I was on a region 3 lk with plenty thick ice ( at least 10-12 inches solid ! .. you guys getting warmer weather and less ice? I suspect some parks are keeping lakes closed closer to my home for whatever reason other than unsafe ice! I have gone icefishing once in febuary because I can't see burning cash on gas heqading north for qa day on ice for a few dinks ..albeit, and unless i'm mistaken, we have had a relatively normal febuary winter with enough freezing days and certainly overnight freezing conditions for safe ice fishing. have a great day in our american outdoors!, peace,John
