the moisture is going to add weight to the spool, which increases its kinetic energy when casting. You will have to tighten up the spool brake a little bit. That should take care of the problem.

hold your rod up and out at a 45 degree angle and release your spool. Let the lure free fall to the ground. When it hits, your reel handle shouldn't make more than a quarter turn. Adjust your braking systems accordingly. Repeat when spool becomes wet.

You could try spraying your reel with Reel Magic

What you are having is clasic Shimano problems. I have many Shimano casters, and for what ever reason them have a strong tendency to over run when drenched with water. I have curado 300s, and they are perfect until a steady rain will take the brakes away. Then i have to do more manual labor and drag my thumb. It isnt the end of the world just somthing you need to keep in your mind. I have not found a cure, it is just the way it is.

So yes i experence it well when it rains from steady rain to a drencher. Mine isnt effected much by a drizzle. I learned to live with it.

The way I fixed all of my baitcaster issues was to leave it in the garage and get a new spinning reel.

There is a time and place for everything, learn to thumb the spool and adjust your brake and you will be able to use your bait caster if you give up on it and say it's too hard then it's your loss. I love my spinning reel but I will never use one for musky others do but I like to be able to loosen my drag during a fight or hit free bail and thumb the spool going into a figure 8. Bass, walleye, gills, steelhead, they all get a spinning rod musky and even carp, they get something that is intended to and can handle the lures and what I am fishing for. Practice, practice, practice!

once i got good with a baitcaster i hardly ever wanted to use my spinning reels again especially when fishing with lures using a baitcaster just feels much more natural then a spinning reel holding under the rod gives you more control on the fish and you cant beat the accuracy of a baitcaster you can make pinpoint cast try pitching to a pocket with a spinning reel.Over 3/8 oz you cant beat a baitcaster just takes practice

There is a reason why almost every single professional tournament fisherman uses baitcasters for the majority of their techniques

I've never gone with a bait caster because of backlash. Maybe someday for trolling big/salt water. What spinning reel cant adjust the drag during a fight? Over hand, side arm, and underhand(like a bait caster) can be done well with a spinning. Practice makes perfect, eh? I can't see under handing muskie lures. I hafta catapult that ****. haha
    Just my 2 cent.

Like I said there is a reason why all professional fisherman use a baitcaster for the majority of applications they are just more useful and practical

I think people are intimidated by baitcast reels thinking they require a highly educated thumb to cast without backlashing but the truth is with today's modern cast control systems either centrifugal or magnetic brakes or a combo of the two you can learn to cast a reel effectively within a short period of time just takes practice

for lures a baitcast reel is just more practical they are more accurate and faster to cast no flipping the bail just press the thumb release and cast and reel.

Since this post was based on MUSKY fishing, i feel that the debate on spinning vs casting is not even a debate. Every true musky fisherman i know, does not carry a spinning reel in there boat that is rigged for musky. There is a reason, spinning gear can not compete with casting gear in this type of fishing. There are to many negitives with the whole set up. I am not saying people can not catch them with spinning gear, i am saying that a proper musky set up does not incluse a spining reel.

I use whatever is best for the situation.  For a long time I only used spinning gear because it was tough to learn baitcasting but I always have this drive to learn more and get better at not only solving the puzzle of catching fish but using the correct tools it takes to do that and sometimes that means a baitcaster now if you want to only use spinning gear that is great its a blast and there is nothing wrong with it but if you want to go out and try to be the best on that body of water on a certain day you need to know both because there is definitely a time and a place for both.  Like AK said there is a reason why you see more baitcasting gear used by pro's.
