If it's ok I might show up for the outting.. Lately I've been trying to balance a social, fishing, and academic life and throwing fly line has taken a back seat.

Suggestions on what to bring? I'm sure knowing the guys on the sight that beer will be there.. But the old man suggested maybe a few cases of Yuengling (I guess you can never have enough). Something different perhaps?

Sorry, but there is no alcohol allowed at this outing because it's at a State Park.

what should I be tying for that weekend? What bugs will be coming off?

Your guess is as good as mine.. It's been a weird season as far as timing the hatches. Tan caddis are due. 14's to 18's.
Olive, tan, green and brown caddis anywhere from 14 to 20 can happen at anytime in May thru. June..
14 Cahills will be soon.
Right now BWO's in 20 to 24 are on.
16 - 18 yellow craneflies are on.
16 olive caddis are on.
12 March browns are spotty, at least on the section we are fishing.

guys it is definately a full-blown something. Earache, stuffiness, weakness, feaver, sneezing and difficulty breathing. Oh and the gastro distress. I'm severely smurfed.

Oil Creek at 6.14 feet this morning according to the gages. Hope it falls before the weekend. Yesterday morning when I fished it the height was around 2.74 and the color was great.

I'm sure it will drop fast, but any shots of rain from here till Friday could spell trouble.

It appears that Sunday, May 16th is obviously the most popular date to have the outing, so let's go with it. Most usually fish in the morning, then we meet around noon at one of the pavilions beside the creek, once you travel over the steel bridge at Petroleum Center. (Oil Creek State Park)

It time for a roll call of those planning on attending and what you can bring (food, plates, etc.) to the picnic Sunday, May 16th. I will update this list daily.

Still planning on coming unless the creek is blown... not driving 5 hours for that. Hope it doesn't rain anymore.

We can still get together and cook the 700 lbs of food that is being brought. 2-3 years ago the creek was up and only two fish were caught one for the first time on a fly (Fisher of men). So high water should not deter a person who has gone over Niagra falls in a kyak.

You got that right MO! I'm feeling a little better and if I continue to feel better I will be on the road VERY early Friday morning. Plan to do a little "scouting" on Saturday so I can get the "falling in and getting soaked" thing out of the way and so I can show the grandson Oil Creek. We may head up to Titusville and see the museum and fish some behind the Museum on Saturday. Plus there used to be a really nice little Italian place up by the football field in Titusville. Saturday is pretty much play it as it comes. I don't even know who all is going to be up Saturday.
BTW there is NOT a lot of good Italian food in KY. A poor resturant in PA beats just about everything I've found down here (with two exceptions).

Glad to here you're feeling better!

I've never been there, but have heard many good reviews about a brewpub called Blue Canoe in Titusville.
I looooove their Scotch Ale! (drank it at the Beer on the Bay Festival last summer)

Looking more and more like a HUGE blowout. Rain all week except one day and the creek is already at 3250 right now, peaked at 4000 this morning.  Don't know if ill make it down.

You guys think it will fish? It just doesn't seem possible to me at all.  Pine Creek should definately fish but I dont know any other creeks in the area.

It's only Wednesday night. Maybe give it a few days.

At least last week when it was stocked the weather wasn't that great,
thus there should be plenty of willing, aggressive trout to catch.
Think positive.

Since I'm not a Expert on OC what is the optium flow? 2 years ago it was up over the banks and up to the walk path and there were still places to catch fish. We can always pretend it's Elk and throw Big buggers or stone flies. Maybe a clouser stripped behind some boulders. I'm actually thinking of bringing my 12' 5 wt and tossing buggers. Plus the creek up behind the Museum at Titusville should be down quicker shouldn't it? Or is that a "No Fishing" zone?
BTW anybody who is going to be in the area on Sat and who knows the local creeks want to "guide" me and skeeter.

There are many reasons to attend this GET TOGETHER.  I hear some folks are going to have surprises in store for them at lunchtime.  Some of you guys havent had the chance to see others since before Christmas when the steel were in the tribs plentiful.  I totally respect guys that want to fish hardcore all day but to some of us this its a chance to see old friends, make new ones and just enjoy a day away.  Sometimes you just got to have an open mind and GO...may be surprised at the fun you have and the friends you make.
