Then blue would work. Only wouldn't recommend chartreuse...for some reason that chat. bucktail REEKS like some kind of solvent.

Should probably pinch the barbs then too, huh?

Great work. I can't beleive how evenly spaced that wrap is.( not sure what you call that) New to ff and tying.

The body work is second to none, Bone up on the exposed thread wraps between the front materials ie; body-to-throat, throat-to-wing and these would be worthy of a shadow box. I hope you don't take offense to comment, besides I know the fish won't mind, please show some more

Thanks smallie. Alot (hell, ALL) of the success I might enjoy at the tying bench or on the stream is due to guys who knew more than me helping me out. I'm by no means a pro, but if there's ever anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask. If I can't help (a real possibility), I'll probably be able to point you in the direction of someone who can.

Bruce, thanks for the compliments! Even greater thanks for the critique! Any suggestions on how to make it happen? I was stopping my floss body using the reference point of where the hook wire ended after forming the eye. Leaves me with plenty of space for the wing, but makes that spacing a little trickier.

Very nicely done. Few things as pretty as a well-tied salmon fly. You have proportion nailed.

FWIW -- you did a beautiful job separating the colors of multiple-color bucktail wing. IF you should want to simplify this step, here's what I do with this style wing. I use the old-style hair stacker (half a metal tube) to get the tips approx even (but not perfectly even, so they look like a brush). Then I trim the hair to a manageable length and roll them just a little bit twixt thumb and forefinger (so they mix but not too much). Then tie them on. Then tie on the darkest color of bucktail on top.

IMHO, this approach allows a smaller head, adds a little durability and takes a practiced eye to tell the difference.

    Again, great job.

anchke, that's a cool idea. I will definitely try that the next time I tie. :)

Here's 2 more I tied up during the game. Tried to incorporate what Bruce suggested, and they *do* look better, though still not perfect. As always, PEACH:

Cold, now we're talkin, those are great!I don't see a single thread wrap, very nice. You mentioned they are not perfect, dude we are always trying for the perfect fly, but if it were perfect the only place we could go , would be down. These are very nice and you will figure out exactly how much hair you can get away with.

Found a deal on some salmon hooks, so I can tie on #2 and #4 now...the bigger hook makes for a simper process, but you've gotta be on your A game to keep it consistent throughout!

Came up with these three, tied on Partridge M's, size 2.

    As always, PEACH 'em.

    Oh, almost forgot!

Used some alternate winging hair on these. The white, silver, pink, and green you see is calf tail. The olive on top of the olive one is indeed bucktail, while the black on top of the other two is black bear guard hairs.

Those heads are perfect, great job on these, they are "shorter"and that makes for a nice and neat package
