Celery Farm

this seems to be the most productive spot on shenango so far. I was out again today a little later than i would have liked 9:45 am but still caught some crappie, bluegill, perch and a couple of nice white bass. the warm weather/rain actually helped by melting the snow and adding about 3 more inches of white ice. 6-8 inches total. i have caught fish every time out and there have been a steady number of guys with today being the most ive seen.

I was at golden run. There was 2 feet of open water on the shore line by the boat launch.

Would anybody mind informing me where the celery farm is located at. I've never fished Shenango, but I have the day off tomorrow and I think I'm starting to get cabin fever. Might be worth a drive down.

How much black ice is there right now?
Are the guys using a plank to get on the lake at this point?
Directions above are correct. Good discription.

about 3-4 inches of black ice, 3 inches white. i went this morning and the edge was broken but frozen but it was cold last night and this morning with alot of wind... so with the temp around 40 and sunny all day im not sure about the edge after today.

Thanks for the report. Planning on heading down in the morning w/ a buddy to check it out. Will be my first time to this lake and hopefully we can get out there. As I said, the cabin fever is setting in, so it will be  great to get out. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Just a follow up for everyone. Still haven't made it down to Shenango yet. I ran to Espyville to get bait yesterday and was told he crappie were hitting up at Manning boat launch. Ended up fishing there yesterday and this morning.  Kept 16  10"-13" crappie and 2  10" perch between the two days.  Bite was pretty hot for me today with probably a dozen missed bites  and 3 throwbacks in addition to the fish kept. All fish were caught with a jig and minnow combo 3'-5' from the bottom.  Ice was pretty stable and looked to be about 7" thick.  Was probably 50-60 guys out today between there and Tuttle.  Will see how the weather holds out and might be back at it tomorrow morning.

rjt - i dont think that would be in your best intrest. the ice has got to be bad. its rained 2 days in a row and before the rain there was only 4 inches total and less than half was good clear ice.

They both serve the same purpose and are both very accurate.  You are really just looking at feature differences more than anything.  I own a Vexilar and would have a hard time living without it on the ice.  A friend of mine has a Humminbird and really likes it.  When I purchased, I was comparing price, durability and features (price not necessarily being the most important factor)..Vexilar was my choice.  If you plan to fish shallow waters (Shenango, Wilhelm, etc.), my opinion is to not worry about any of the zoom and split screen options that increase the flasher cost and use difficulty.  I am confident I have doubled or even tripled my success through the ice (and even on the boat) with the flasher.

    rjt,

The ice on the lakes was starting to be a bit cracky on Sat afternoon.  I would also not recommend going on any ice right now.
