Misery in the Morn

Ill be heading out to misery in the morning if anyone else is heading out post something. Ice fishing is always fun with more people. Somebody with a Vex would be nice too . Ill be there bright and early with the frabill recon or the dolphins beanie.

Myself and a few other board members will be out as well. Blue coat, glasses, orange hat. Duud I'm going with is a red headed giant.

I don't always snag fish, but when I do...

Fishin' wasn't bad today. I gave my holes to a guy in a orange hat when I was leaving ? I was in a blue clam, stinkin like beer, smoking a cigar and a funny hat on. Bright orange sled. Funny smell from the tent ???? Wonder if whoever it was caught any fish ? The holes I had were pretty good. I'll post some pics. Nice 13" crappie and a load of gills. Not a bad weekend for the bass.........

Not a very productive day for me today. 1 gill,1 crappie, lost a nice size bass , and got broke/bit off by sumpin else.

At least I know where not to go the next time out.

First time out on the ice this year. 4 to 5 inches of good hard black ice with 2 to 3 inches of white ice on top. lots of huts, ill be trying again next weekend.

Kept 6 nice sized gills today, they will be fried up and tried for the first time tommorow. All in all it was a good morning for me. 7-12 I caught about 30 gills and thats it. One guy next to me caught a nice Largemouth and I heard a couple small crappies were caught. I was fishing closer to shore than the large group of huts and I found the nice school of gills. Soon I hope to get closer to the bay so there is atleast a chance for some perch  any tips for cooking gills? Oh and nuclear ants with 2 grubs were the ticket for me.

Went out today, took the kids, first time ever for ice fishing for my son ( 9 ) and daughter ( 6 ), she caught two gills, and he caught one that was it, had a few missed bites really slow for us, maybe due to the fact we got out late, we started right around 11am, went to 1st parking lot about 4, talked to couple of guys said it was slow out there, so we went to horseshoe and just when we were going to get set up my poor daughter droped her one leg down a 10 inch hole that was not frozen and was covered by snow so she never saw it, got her leg and foot soaked so we left so she could dry out. Good ice on Mis, I measured about 7inches, out past the group was real slushy and lots of weeds down below. Closer in not too bad. Off 1st and 2nd parking lot the guys said the ice was 3.5 to 4 inches and 8 - 12 inches of slush on top.
Getting reports perch are being caught in front of the public dock, but ice is so so. There was a hut in the marina few off 3rd parking lot, in the cover before the ranger station. I think the front that moved in changed the barometric pressure and messed up the fishing. Most of the fishermen I talked to today said it was pretty slow. Better luck another day.

+1. I fished 7 FOW (in about 10 feet) and had to make them rise off the bottom to bite. No fish off the bottom sat or sun. Key for me was to take one of those kiddy rakes you buy at home depot (or lowes), put a little longer handle on it and cot the width down to fit an 8" hole. Put it down the hole and rake the weeds out of the way of your hole. Wait a little bit and they will swarm around all the debris stirred up. I had to keep them moving to get them interested. I also had to keep changing jigs to keep the bite going. Green/yellow jig head with 4 spikes was hot for a bit, them I had to switch to a white teardrop jig. Tried a dropper, but kept getting it in the weeds. I love fighing those thick weeds. I saw a ton of bass on my Aqua View, but could not get much action. Took home a lot of gills and a few crappie, but I had to put the time and effort in to get them in the bucket. Wind picked up Sunday afternoon and kept wanting to push the walls in on my Clam popup. Any suggestions of how to keep that from happening ????? Anyone see any calico's being pulled up. Buddy I was with pulled up a nice fat 14" srtripe, but that was it. Nice fat guy. Released to see another jig......

It's funny you mention the smallmouth. I could have swore I saw 2 smallies roaming with a couple largemouth on my camera. I didn't think much about it then, mostly cause I though I was just seeing stuff. Now I wonder ? I have picked up a couple nice ones out of Woodcock while ice fishing and they are a blast. I still think I was just seeing stuff...............

Ice was good, and fishing was ok. couple decent bluegill, buncha small ones, and 1 nice crappie. Nice day to be out. Plan on going again Sunday.

Hello, Jim, I believe it was, I was wearing a a red, grey , and blue coat with cameo pants pulling a fish trap, my son was wearing a steelers coat and my daughter was wearing black snow pants and light blue coat. why did things pick up after we left, should we have stayed there til dark? I was trying to get my kids into the fish, come to find out i should have gone in closer to shore. We are going back out on Saturday, taking a day off from work to spend some more quality time with the kids. They had fun on Sunday even though they didn't catch that many fish.

We went over the weekend (misery also) and did fairly decent both days. Saturday was nicer then Sunday, but Sunday was more productive. Fished about 3 - 4 hours both days.  Can't wait to go on the bay, but waiting for the ice to thicken up a bit.

    bass ackwards,
for your wind problem... i always face the ends (doors) towards the wind. they are a little stronger and have less surface area to catch the wind. i also take a shovel when there is snow on the ice. it is very helpful, i clear a line of snow to drill the holes, then to clear the shavings and slush, then after i move the hut into position i shovel snow against the hut on all sides to insulate the gap from the wind so the holes dont freeze over. This also helps keep hut from sliding across the ice if the winds pick up. i even think it keeps you warmer if you use a buddy heater or a lamp. hope this helps
