Crappie at Kahle Lake?

Anybody ever have much luck catching crappie at Kahle? I have found them during spawn when they are in shallow, but have never really be able to locate them before or after spawn. I know they are in there someplace. Anyone else have much luck finding them deep?

Anyone been fishing Kahle lately?  I may go up for a half day on Sat. and I have never fished there.  Can someone give me directions from I-80?  Also, are there any bait shops close by?  Thanks...

    Eyesandgillz,

To get to Kahle lake from 1-80.  Get off 1-80 at exit 45 and follow the exit toward 208/Emlenton.  At the intersection turn "right" onto Rt 38. Follow about 3 miles North.  You will pass the intersection of 208 (Knox), keep going on Rt 38 until there is a 'road to the right' at the bottom of a long hill.   There is a small sign that says "Kahle Lake Road" but is not very visible.  Turn right and follow up the hill until the road spilts.  Take the "left" fork and follow a short distance.  The entrance to the boat launch/parking area will be on the "left".  If you miss Kahle Lake Road from Rt 38, the next public road to the right will take you to the other side of the lake.

As for bait in the local area.  Emlenton has several bait stores.  Go on line and get their numbers and call ahead!  The stores always seem to be waiting for the minnow guy to arrive!  In "downtown" Knox there is a bait store I believe is called "Sportsmans Center", they sell minnows but are not open all the time.  One last place to try is the bait store at the bridge in Parker.

The bait shop at the end of the parker bridge is closed.........on 38 just before turning on to kahle lake road, there is a house with the name "switzer" visible from the road, also a pond in the yard, you can get worms there on the honor system, I think there is a fridge outside or a cooler with worms by the dozen.

We are catching Gills and crappies, some are decent size. Also try Rt.66 Sporting Goods,On Route 66 7 miles north of I-80 Exit 60. Ph.814-226-4055.Can also reach Kahle from there at light turn left  onto 322 west or turn right  coming from the  bait shop. You can reach 208 to knox in Shippenville  or continue on 322 towards Franklin you will find Rt 38.

Thanks guys.  I ended up buying bait the night before in West Elizabeth and took it up with me.  Did well on the gills (25-30 bulls) and one nice perch but the crappie had lockjaw for me.  I was back in one of the coves in about 2-3 ft. and the water was crystal clear.  There were spawning black crappie all around me but they wouldn't hit anything that I threw at them!  The minnows I took landed me a couple 14" bass and I caught one other nice one on a bluegill fly tipped with maggots.  The crappie wouldn't even look at the minnies, or jigs, or spinners or anything.  Nice lake.  I think I will be back.  Anyone know if there are any walleye in there?  I think I read somewhere that is gets stocked with fry.  I might try trolling some more next time I am there if there are some eyes in there.
