Odd catches while ice fishing ?

I am sure some of you guys have brought a fish to the hole and said what the heck is that doing hitting my bait ????


I was really surprised by a few species ... one being bullhead, and the other being suckers. I just didn't expect to see any of them ice fishing.Oddly enough both from the same place and on more than one occasion.


I'll tell you those suckers put up a great fight, thought for sure it was a nice bass. This one was 18" ...

    how about mud puppies.  I've caught them several time throught the ice.

    Really excited when I caught a ball of barbed wire with about twelve different jigging lures on it that had broken off, but remained attached.  Also caught two carp through the ice while ice fishing on a farm pond in Pennsylvania.

    i wonce snagged a muskrat on my friends pond and ive heard of guys getting beavers that wanted to come up for air.

    if at first you dont succeed... blow it up.

    you want organic? well then shut the &^$() up and eat a *$&#*( squirrel.

    well the guy who got the beaver didnt get it by pole he got it by his fish billy he keeps in his sled.  that muskrat put up one heck of a fight for about 10 seconds before it broke my 2lb test.  also caught a goldfish once in the erie canal.

    Only bullheads and some suckers they fight like a big eye!!! I did hear that winter suckers are good eaten if you smoke them!!! Never tried it but maybe some day!!! (NO Elvis not that WAY!!!)

    What about that sucker you caught on Round Lake a few years ago.  We could have smoked that one!

    Caught a clam one fishing a trout farm run off pond.  One year the pond overflowed and it had trout in it.  Some real big ones too.  since we knew the farm owner we had full access.  My girl at the time had one pull her hook straight, all I caught there was a clam and 2 large mouths.

    urgh i caught my face yesterday.  jig got stuck on the ice and i gave it a quick jerk and right below my right eye.  been hooked there 3 times now lol.  note to self use barbless hooks

    I smoked a sucker in college that made me misss class for like a week one time...
     
    Craziest thing I've seen on the ice was a Mud Puppy on Otisco Lake last spring.  I had never seen one of those things before.  Scared the crap out of me, it looked like an alien.
     
    Legs? Barking at me?  Most absurd and terrifying freshwater fish I can think of.  I am glad I have never caught one locally.  **** them Mud Puppies!!!
