What do you think? About 1 million pterodacttyls and 250,000 raptors? Annually.

Woah now...I think that might be a bit extreme...those pterodactyls can do a lot of damage and they are pretty expensive to raise.  Especially since the hatcheries would have to feed and keep them until they are able to fly.  You'd have to cut that stocking down to at least half of your 1 mil. annually.  That may result in a new Erie stamp of sorts though...they can call it the EAES (Erie Angler Eater Stamp).  May be a bit pricey since they'd have to contract the hatchery work out to Jurrasic Park?  I still think the idea can fly....do you think it might fly before they put a dam in on Elk?

I say they make that dam on Elk. Create an island in the middle of the lake above the dam to raise them dinos. Now things are starting to come together. Maybe even reopen Sportsman Wharehouse. Hows that?

I have been wondering the same thing. I fish Walnut south of Rt.5 and we usually have more fish than this at this time of year. A small run went up a few weeks ago. But I walk the creek about every day and I am seeing nothing. A few theories were passed around. (1) If the fish were not stocked high enough, they would not have imprinted on the creek. OK, but what about the fish that stay low? (2) The flood we had in June significantly altered the stream so that the fish cannot find the "imprint." But that does not explain why Elk has fish all the way to McKean--and it got hit quite hard with the flood as well. (3) Despite the cold weather, it is still a bit early. My personal best fishing has been late November through January anyway. But it would be nice to see some more fish.

DuUds,

I have fished at least  2-3 days every week, since mid September. Last week, it was monday, and thursday. Never stopped at the access on thursday, but on mionday I fished just below the rocks, and had pods of fresh fish, along with the older fish, that aren"t going anywhere in front of me all day.

You guys keep saying "after 2 rains, 3 rains, high water". The fish that enter the streams during high water, keep on swimming well past the access. The fish that enter the streams during low water ( after several days without rain ), are the ones that "stack up" in the lower ends. This time of year, is when the middle, and upper sections fill up. The lower ends. stack up in September ( before the rains ), and November ( as the rains become less frequent ).

It's not rocket surgery.

again you reply without reading first.
they failed to stack up

thats what we are saying.
and now you also predict weather?
and November ( as the rains become less frequent ).

who are you? nostradomus of fisherie?

How many days since the 1st major rain, has Elk gotten so low that the fish couldn't continue upstream? NONE. It rains, the creek comes down, and it rains again. There is ( as I pointed out ) no need for them to "stack up" on the lower end. Still, they ARE pretty stacked up at the access. You obviously can't see, or fish, any better than you can read.

As for predicting weather. Mid November-December typically see less frequent high-or low water events, and a more consistent flow. It has nothing with "prediction", just past experience.

ever wonder why the fish this year are on average 1-2 pounds heavier?

its because there is so few of them. less competition for available food

I'm sure you still dont get it.

While I'm waiting for UPS. Have you really been down to trout run lately? Are there several thousand fish piled up there like every year? Or just a few hundred, which might indicate some sort of "collapse"?

I'm beginning to suspect that you couldn't find fish at Seaworld.

Duud, you are getting your panties in a bunch.  I've had the luxury of being laid off since the first big push of fish and I totally agree with spoon.  The fish are running through the mouth and lower parts of the creeks (walnut excluded) and are in decent to good numbers mid to upper parts.  Problem is the fish are very spread out.  Most want to fish over pods of 50 fish in a hole and stay there all day.  You got to move, cover ground and hunt them.  Figure out what kind of water they are holding in AND being active in and then fish every piece of water similar to that.  AND KEEP COVERING GROUND. Spoon is dead on about the weather from here on out.
To help you figure out why there isnt many rain events in Novemeber on is easy.  Its called SNOW.  Affects streams less as it comes down and when it melts it feeds the stream giving it a constant, nice flow and level.

Now, you are off your rocker with the comment spoon doesnt fish.  Dont think spoon actually works, lol.
My guess is you are a combo of several things.  First, inexperienced and need big pods of fish in front of you to catch ONE in a day. Second, either you are lazy and wont walk to find fish or not motivated enough to go find new spots and you want spoon fed (pun intended). My last guess is that you are arguing to argue.

I think it was three weeks ago now, the only time this fall that the water level dropped low enough to keep the fish from moving since the water temperature also dropped, and the access was absolutely stacked with fish--as many as I have ever seen.  As the week went on they got harder to catch, I think because TJ and Frankie were hooking them all at night...  ;-)
Yesterday (Tuesday) we were hooking dime silver fish, fresh out of the lake, in mid elk.  As Spoonie said, with enough water in the creeks, they didn't have any need to stop in the access.

My thoughts exactly. He took the mother load square in the face.

The steelbow population can't "collapse." They stock more every year. You could have a bad year class, or even several year classes for some reason, but it can't "collapse."
