RE: the run 2007/09/09 19:03:56 (permalink)
Was lucky enough to be at the "wall" this past friday morning at 6am. To my amazement there wasn't anyone else there. Didn't hammer them but I did manage to land 3 before the sun hit the water and they all came down with lockjaw. By 8am most of the 30 or so fish in front of me started heading back to the lake. Believe me they were not just a bunch of jacks either. There was a good mix of large and small fish. The largest fish landed was 24" but I had one on just after daybreak that tried to run to the "stop sign hole" I was forced to put an end to his run by putting my finger on the spool. That's when he jumped gave me a solid headshake which straightened out my jig and left me with nothing but a "good" rush and a fond memory.
I do believe it's that time again!!!
Good luck to all.

RE: the run 2007/09/10 12:44:25 (permalink)
Was down at the Wall n Walnut Sat AM.  Seen a good number of fish along the wall.  The hole upstream from the Marina was also holding a few fish.  They were there all day long to but they had lockjaw bad.  Wouldnt hit anything.  Went down to Elk also and saw a few very few fish at the mouth.  Seemed like the nut had more fish.

Went down Saturday night again thinking would do well.  Well all I did was get soaked.  It rained all night Saturday night into Sunday Morning.  When I was leaving Sunday it was still raining.  Dont know exactly how much rain they received.  Stopped at trout run on the way home to just look and see if any fish made it into the creek but I didnt see any.  Now the creek was up a little and brown so visibilty wasnt the greatest.

Seems to me like Peacy may be right on this date.  If we get a little more rain this week and the temps stay down like they are supposed to then we could have fish in the creeks by this weekend.

Very true Bug.  Need to have colder temps for a while and some more rain.  But there will be the ocassional pod of fish that just cant wait any longer.  Kinda like us anglers.  But if traveling a great distance I would stay home and save gas money for more trips during the peek of the run say last week Oct to mid Nov.

Landed a couple today, seen a few others landed in the am including two very nice browns.

By the way, the new project hole below the stop sign hole looks great, and so did the fish that were holding in it! (see below)

Had to practice self photography with the timer this afternoon, there was no one around to take my picture...  How often can you say that about the project waters?

Elk was still to muddy for me to fish, but I'm sure a few fish rain it also.  With the cool weather ahead this week, look for the next rain to really set things off.  Still not alot of fish around, but enough to keep things interesting.

More rain today followed by cooler weather today should set something off with these fish.

Nice job Tim.  I took a drive down there earlier that day and didn't see any fish.  The holes had nice color though.  That's probably why.

And then there were 50.

Thanks for posting the pictures of yourself, the chrome, and the soon to be packed project waters.  Your next assignment is to shoot the same view in 2 weeks.  I bet you don't see the rocks on the other side.

Come on Tim.  You know the project waters will be packed not matter what.  I have seen them jammed with people and no one catching a darn thing.  That is the way it is.  Let the young man show off a little and toot his horn.  Now where did I put those pheasant tails....

This blow should bring some cooler water, and Steel to the shore line. If the creeks remain low, it should make for some good spoonchuckin once the lake lays down.

Spoons should be fun.  Nothing like a steelie grabbing one and taking off in the lake where they have LOTS of room to run around.  Quite a different experience than cornering one in a small pool in the creek.  Time to dust off the Cleo's and Rooster Tails....

Fish are there today.  1/2 dozen or so at the Stop Sign hole and guys fishing Manchester hole, so fish must be there too.  2 or 3 fish on the wall at Trout as well as 1/2 dozen or so at the first ladder.  One was VERY VERY DARK, almost looked like a coho?
