down locking reel seats

i have an old orvis green mt. rod with a down locking reel seat.  this is a medium action rod that is really forgiving for a water-beater like me.  i was wondering if anyone even uses a rod with a real seat like this anymore?

    I have two rods with the down locking reel seats. An old bamboo that doesn't see action anymore, and a new 6'6" glass rod that my little boy uses. Don't see that many rods around that have them anymore.
