Read through the pics on F&S.  It says he tried to release the fish, but it inhaled the plug so deep that it took a set of hooks in its gills.  Not much he could have done about that.

Unbelievable! Good reason not to go swimming ever again in any lake or river with muskies!

    nice

An angler is a man who spends rainy days sitting around on the muddy banks of rivers doing nothing because his wife won't let him do it at home.

That is terrifying, If I'd die if one of those tree trunks with teeth swam by me.

I seriously think, if provoked or something, that fish could easily kill a small human, whether it be by drowning or whatever.

That is a fish of my dreams and nightmares.  When I hook a muskie it is a thrill, then the reality of having to land it sinks in and things get exciting.   I can only imagine trying to land that sucker... Also, like someone else said it will cost a pretty penny to have that mounted.  I would bet he will get it done for free or at cost.  The guy who does mount may cut him a break if he lets everyone know who did the work.  Also, I would bet the guy who caught the fish will be carrying it around to sportsman's shows to show it off.

Yeah, the ONLY true way to recognize a record fish is to certifiably have it weighed...hence kill it!  Besides, you saw how many hours this guy fishes, if you read the article...he has probably released more fish than most have caught in a lifetime...CUDDOS to him, he deserved it for sure.  Just glad to see a dedicated muskie guy catch a record fish like that, its usually some Joe fishing with a worm and bobber for bluegills...Prime example is O'Brien's world record 68 lber. caught on a Rapala while trolling for walleyes.

Final note for the "purists":  (Just because I can't stand the "attitude anymore!)
The fish died an accidetal death...it was hooked in the gills, so read the facts before making ignorant comments regarding things you have absolutley NO clue about.  Either way killed intentionally or not, it was his perrogotive and none of anyone elses' business as long as he did it legal and he caught the fish....You catch one....do whatever you want with it!!!!  You can even sleep with it if you want, but of course you'd have to do it underwater in order to keep the fish alive to your liking! LOL

    ?

Where does this post come from?

All he said were some facts:

    really nice - fact
    big - fact
    dead - fact
    fish - fact.

There isn't even an opinion in that post to be had.  Your post is full of opinion though.

One question I have is this:  why are the fins and the tail so red?

D, Go back and read his posts. Everytime, there is any strain on a fish or a picture he does not approve of, this guy will criticize that person. Some times it is more blatant than others, but there is always a negative air in his posts. It doesn't matter that a fellow angler was within his right to keep a fish legally, if K doesn't like it, then he will criticize him for it. He didn't put dead in parentheses because he approved of the man catching and keeping his trophy of a lifetime. For what it is worth, congrats to the angler. What a great fish.

If he does do that sometimes, he didn't this time.

Serious question, you know muskies, why are that fish's tail and fins so red?  Any idea?  It's kind of cool looking, but I never saw that before.

yea a new state record perch was caught too this past spring in the bay but it didnt count cause it has to be 2 oz or something over the previous record.... i think... thats a crock of **** by the fish commission. so apparently weighing it doesnt mean much- 2pounds 10 ounces beats 2pounds 8 ounces everytime last time i checked or something like that...
