Now she looks forward to me going and can't wait till I leave!!! Be careful in those waters, steely...here be monsters... Obviously, as an unmarried guy, I dont deal with anything like that, but I've noticed that different girlfriends have responded in different ways. One complained about it for a few hours then learned to live with the idea. Another got ****y from the time I mentioned it until the trip was over...at which point it seemed like she totally forgot about it. The current one is kind of fish psychic. Last season, she was spending a few weeks in LA and I asked via text if she had any plans for the weekend she got home (mentioned nothing about fishing, let along a steelhead trip). Her reply? "Had a few ideas, but if you want to go to Erie u should def go."

15 years of marriage now. Only took me 8 years to convince my wife that fishing is part of my interest in life and she better get used to me going . with that said , it will get easier as the years pass, and for the last 5 years I tell her Im going fishing and she just asks what time I might be home to which I reply when Im done fishing I will be home. She now just says be safe , see you later. Love ya! Reminding her that she is always the love of your life, but she has to share a little bit of me wiff da fishes.

ORIGINAL: jiggerman41 another steelhead season is upon us and i have a question.everytime i tell my wife that i am going to erie to go fishing she gets an attitude and says that i am choosing steelhead over her.its to the point now that i get the silent treatment when she thinks that i am going to erie.does anyone else have this problem?if so what do you do to get out? I can guarantee you that this will work, it works all the time with my wife and anyone else I need to negotiate with. Start by telling her that you are going to go fishing for a riddiculous amount of time, like friday afternoon to sunday night. She will freak out and tell you that is out of the question. THEN, you act like you are making a sacrifice and offer to "only go for a day". They feel like they have won, but you got exactly what you wanted in the first place. Try the technique, it applies to anything. Ask for the moon, then offer to settle for what you really wanted. If that doesn't work, explain to her that it is something you need to do, for your personal well being and that you can be a better husband to her when you are a complete person. Sometimes reasoning does work, when trickery doesn't. lol

My wife and I recently switched. After 8 years of bringing home the bacon, I'm now the house **** and she brings home the cash. Trust me when I tell you I can fold a mean towel! She asked me a few weeks ago if her working and us being apart more would ruin our marriage, and I replied as honestly as I could, "Not as long as you continue to support my fishing habit." I got my new fly rod for the One Fly in the mail today.

my gf thinks when I am fishing that I am fooling around on her she doesn't understand the fishing addiction so i just tell her see you when i get home, maybe one day she won't be their but the fish always are.

This is what makes this forum so great - not only do we help each other out with our addiction with fishin but we also serve as marriage counselors. I love this thread! It's great! LOL!!!! I would suggest though that she never really knows about all the gear that you accumulate. And if she buys you something for fishin and you loose it - never ever tell her. Go out and buy another one before you get home. Wife bought me a beautiful cherry trout net one time. Had it up on the Kettle, landed a real nice brown with it, went to hook it back on my vest and when I let go of it - well lets just say it was never hooked. I watched it sink into the depths of the crick. First time I used it too!! My God she was ****ed.

my little lady doesnt seem to mind when i say i need to go fishing.she realizes the 40 -70 hr work weeks i put in and lets me know when its time for me to recharge my batteries.lol.i was planning on coming up today and she got a little upset when i told her i couldnt go.something came up at work and i couldnt take the day off. it wasnt that way at 1st.she had a hard time with me going fishing for a couple days and tried everything to either cut it short or not let me go at all.even got to the point to where she said she was calling her b/f as soon as i left.finally i told her to go ahead and call him, just make sure he replaces the beer he drinks b4 he leaves.

jigs, my wife said to count your blessings and go fishing, but she said it with a laugh. actually, equal time. if i am bumming around in the boonies all day saturday with a rod or gun, i spend sunday doing stuff with my wife and daughter. works out well. by the all-day attention i give them, they are more than happy to see me go fishing again . like these wise men said, make sure she gets some attention too.

My mother-in-law badgered her husband about fishing any chance she got. Now he didn't fish much, usually just the first few days and weekends of trout season and maybe a day or two thru the rest of the year. She finally threw enough of a fit about it one year that he didn't buy a license and didn't go on our annual 1st day of trout outing...... he died in June of that year from a massive heart attack. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere!

first i've learned to set things straight at the beginning. i told her i fish, when it's time to fish i fish. i did learn bringing little things home for her on overnight out-of-town trips (not a car though ) seem to ease the pressure. second, i tell them "don't plan anything from the first saturday after april 11th till about the end of June on weekends. or, first day of buck season." third "we can work it out from there" i lernt never, never ask your old lady if you can go fishen!!!!!! any how, i came to the conclusion that women and i don't get along once we get married. they try to change the rules and agreements later on like they own me. i sure hope i meet the RIGHT woman someday though. you know, the one that lives in a log cabin near a trout stream
