dry fly boxes

are rippled boxes okay for dries, or should compartmental boxes be used?

    Rippled boxes suck for Dries They destroy hackle  Use compartmental boxes......Damit  LOL

    Rap,

    I have a plastic compartment box for dries with a rubber gasket seal to keep water out. This also keeps water IN, though, so I put any damp dries on my patch to dry out before they go back in. Also, I have some of those Zerust tabs somewhere, and when I find them, I'm going to put two of them in there.

    My fly box opens all up at once, though I may soon try one with the individual compartments.

    For my dry boxes, I use the kind that have the foam strips on the insides. You can put the hook point in the foam and the body and hackle are elevated so they don't touch anything but another fly. Also use small compartment style boxes for the real small stuff, the one I have is magnetic to keep the flies falling out.

    perrine fly boxes except for tiny #18 and smaller. #97 is a great compartment, nymph and dry fly box all in one.
    found the double sided nubby tack fly boxes aren't bad for #16' to #12's dry flies though at times the flies somehow come loose and roam around a bit. what's nice though is they are roomy and can hold many flies on each side.
     
    plano fly boxes are what i use for sucker spawn and egg patterns, definitely don't want these to come loose and mate with the others.

    Fly breeding & genetics: for when you wish you had a #6 glo-meth mashup with 2 hooks. Of course you could breed for albinism and end up with a box of one giant pink & white fly with 80 hooks.
