Need a new fly rod

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I lost my fly rod and reel.  I've got to get it replaced and was wondering with what my budget will allow ($250) what your recommendations would be.  I know what I like, but am open to suggestions.  (Loyal to a brand, so I may be missing something)  I can't replace what I had for that amount, but have friends who fly fish for steelhead on less than that.  Also, what is the best rod to have regarding breakage/warranty?  Thanks.  (This will be a steelhead setup, with an occasional trip to NY for Kings mixed in)

    What was your old rod?

    What do you fish for?

    What tactics do you use?

What did you like most & least about your old setup?

Old rod was a St. Croix 9 1/2 foot and a large arbor Okuma machined reel (Forgot the model)  It was a pretty nice setup.  This will be my steelhead/salmon setup that I'm replacing.  I really liked that setup, but wonder what else is good.  Maybe a smoother drag would be nice.  My tactics........drifting weighted nymphs right in front of their beautiful green and silver faces!

Call fishusa and explain what you want.  They have alll kinds of combos that will fit your budget well.  Or you can buy a good reel and have somebody like skip on the boards here build you a rod.  But I'd ask fishusa first.  Their # is at the top od the page!

I have looked through Fish USA's stock and will support as much as possible, but my general question was, can I do better with the $250?  Will give them a call, though.  thanks!

Fly Logic reels have a great drag system and you can get a FLP 567 reel for 75 bucks or so on Ebay.....it would hold 8 wt fly line with about 135 yards of 20 pound micron backing.....made in USA   I have landed 30 pound salmon with the 567 reel !!!  I matched it with a 9.5 foot 7 wt St. Croix avid--great steely stick

you can find a Fly Logic 6/7 wt combo on  ebay for 200 bucks........I love their reels--their rods are OK...I actually like the lower priced rods better than the higher priced ones......the FLO series is worth the money--again, can be found cheaply on Ebay

You can still get a St. Croix--  maybe find an Avid on sale somewhere or the updated Imperial........maybe pick up a used GL 3........I fished a 9 foot 8 wt GL3 for a little bit........it was a great ROD....I used the Teeny mini-sink tip fly line......it was a rocket launcher

you can get a nice outfit for 250 bucks !!!

go to bass pro and buy a scientific angler 8wt 9' for 20.00 on sale u don't have to cast for steel head and if u fish in the cold cold winter the more expensive rods made of a higher modulus graphite get more brittle and i am pretty sure u can still catch as many steelhead as anyone on this site with a 400 rod and reel !

I agree with loomis. Diamondback makes a good rod. I've got a few of them and and they fish just as well as some of the much more expensive rods I own.
