Mohawk Kitty Fishin'

Went out for a little bottom fishing before the football games. Hit the usual spot showed to me by the venerable ILIKEPIKE.  I had one big runner that I think was a carp, but old idiot me didn't tighten the drag down enough when I set the hook and I got a big whizzzz instead. When i tightened up and yanked again, I lost her. Seemed like a heavyweight too.
I was changing my bait one more time before leaving and as I approached a pole to reel it in. off it went.  This time I got the hook in her and she was all muscle, jumped a couple of times and put up a nice fight.  I dragged her****into shore and right then the line snapped.  Luckily she was pooped out and i could grab her and throw her up out of the water.
WOOHOO New Personal Best Kitty, 29 3/4 inches.  Couldn't stretch her that 1/4" though. I was using doughballs rolled in some Quaker oats somebody was nice enough to leave a pile of.
While there, a Bald Eagle flew in, and sat on a sandbar nearby for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile across the river two fawns were lapping up the water, and a heron watched over all.  Wilderness experience 5 minutes from my house in da Ghetto...awesome.
Picture is in my camera that has a broken uploading cable ...trust me it was a nice cat though.

Nice post NYY and sure wish I could get into some of those giants like I did when I was a kid, ahh only to be a kid again..

As for those 4 legged ba$tards !!! I wish they would allow me to be put on the table and not on the side of the road. I wacked one today with the tundra and so far 8 total within 3 miles of my house in the last 10 years. Between my wife, son & myself we have killed 13 with cars again 3 miles from the house.

Hey Tuna, everytime I grab my rods and tackle I am a kid again.. or at least feel that way theres just something about a float sliding below the surface or a bass slammin a topwater lure or the rise of a trout and watching the end of a rod tip forward a few times then bend double that just brings out the kid in all of us.
N Y Yank that sounded like a hole lot of fun there, great post!

Sorry to hijack the thread.... NYY again it's great to sit back & relax fishing...
Jigs... a few times a year I do get to play "the kid" such as Jimmy Jam II or when I get away on vacation... These days all too many times the pressure is on and days like Puddle Pond are hard to swallow when fish should be caught.
It is great to be outdoors and I love the things I do but when I fish "I" fish, when I guide, I guide (to my best) others to fish. When you guys post all those great stories of your adventures at times no matter how good the "trip" for me (us) may have been I feel a bit envous of you kids...

Keep it coming and keep it real

    Peace & Tuna

Glad to see Yank discovering wilderness so close to the same place he saw the ****s...

From hot pants to Bald Eagles withing  a few miles distance- wow.

I don't think either of those species could be considered endangered these days around Waterford.

Also: I suddenly realize where Hot Tuna gets those venison tenderloins all winter for ice fishing!  Ah HA!

I am not so sure most family-oriented publishing houses are ready for a book called "With a Yank" just yet...

But Larry Flint would probably be all over it, and he would love to hear NYY's "Tales From The Troy Dam".

Cats have been hitting hard this week, had about 10 runs and caught 6 over the weekend, in about 5 hrs total fishing, mostly sitting in a chair drinking coffee and humming Elvis tunes.  All were in the 20-28" range. The 28" was a nice channel cat, the others flatheads. Had a real big heavy fish (carp?) on and got greedy and tried to muscle him through some weeds instead of letting him get out himself...snapped my 20lb mono.  I believe the air turned blue for several seconds thereafter.  I always do that crap.

I'm off to the Mohawk tonight to see if the fall walleye bite has started yet.  Will let ya all know.

Tuna:  Sounds like you might better put the gun away this fall & stick with the truck.

You guys do well for eyes in the mohawk in the fall? I always seem to do my best from late spring to mid summer. I usually jig. What are you guys trying? Cranks? Jigging?

For me, it usually depends on how fast the current is. I use a worm harness and troll sometimes, but mostly I jig. Caught a few 2 weeks ago on cranks, but grubs usually work well. Trying to get out tomorrow night for a bit. Definitely hitting it hard this weekend. Last weekend was a bust. It should turn on pretty quick though
