fish on

fished dsr yesterday. put 8 kings and one steelie on the bank before noon.  the first one i hooked i landed and although it was light out, the full moon was still high and shining.  can't get much better than that.  biggest fish was 24 pounds.  steelie was about 8 or 9. fish on

Wasn't there Sat., but fished the SR 9/1 to 9/3, landed 2 fish had 2-3 hook-ups each day. Other than the Sat run, still slow.

yeah i went out yesterday and seen a few kings, had 2 hook ups, couple people caught a few. i've been hearing fish being caught from the dsr and as far down as the ball park hole. but they're mostly straglers. still haven't had the first big run yet.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

"straglers" would be the last fish to come up, not the first.

well, what i hit saturday was not stragglers, (stragglers are referred to as solo runners, whether they come in first or last).  it was a descent run of fish.  i think they made it a little ways upstream and turned back to be honest with you. betwteen a half mile and mile downstream from me a lot of fish had come in, but they never made it up to me.  i've been noticing more and more that these fish come in and out a few times until they actually run the river.  of course there are the ones that keep going, but the majority go back and forth.  this is why you get big runs of fish in mid september that are green and blackish skinned.  this is because they've been exposed to the sun from being in shallow water waitong for that spark to make them run, and high water isn't always the answer.  I actually witnessed a huge run of cohoes 2 years ago when the water was 100 cfs.  it was around sep. 15th i think and everywhere you looked was cohoes splashing through the flat water below the joss hole.  i went back down in the afternoon and there were no fish.  they didn't come through the wall pool because i talked to guys who fished it all day and saw nothing.  later that afternoon any fish i saw was heading downstream.  get this the next day, not a huge run like the day before, but a descent push of cohoes came through, and sure enough as the day went on, we were seeing a lot of fish turning around and heading back.  these are amazing fish that we fish for, and thhey are never predictable.

well, no pics.  i do have a pic of me filleting the two i kept with my son at home, but that's on my wifes phone.  no one has to believe me.  but i know there are definitely a few other people who were down at douglaston last saturday in this forum who can back up my story.  like i said 8 kings and 1 steelhead on the bank.  i'm leaving friday to go up again this weekend.  i just tied my 14-3 9 weight sage up this week.  hopefully the guides are epoxied by this saturday. my eggs from the one female i kept are nice and cured now too.  can't wait for steelies. fish on...

you're right wader.  i often refrain from telling people full storeis of mine.  i really don't care what they think though.  because when i'm out on the water and hooking fish, that's all that matters to me.  whether i hook 1 or 100, it's all good to me. fish on
