Last year the guys by us were using 7lb test. They said we were crazy for running regular 30lb mono. What do you guys prefer? We have gotten them on years past with normal 30lb so just wondering. Braided line or even Fluorocarbon any ideas?

The braid will cut everyones line if you rub up against it, other problem is snags, ever try breaking braid? You need a small dowel or similar to wrap the line around and then pull. Final problem w/ braid is it whistle in the wind and that noise does carry done the line. Don't get me wrong it has its place, I use it for deep water jigging and bottom fishing on reefs and wrecks here in NJ. It is very sensitive and I can feel each rock and its edges. I don't use it for bait fishing for strippers, again it whistles in the wind and when trolling.

I use 15lb yo-zuri flourocarbon as a main line and leader. it has enough strength that you can get the fish in quickly around a bunch of people, but it is light enough that you still get the play factor out of the deal...I like 15lb.

15 # Maxima, light enough, great abrasion resistance on SR rock fish.
Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

for salmon i think 10 -12 lb. as a tippet is good. just enough back bone for torque and light enough for an early running steelie like my father caught yesterday in the lower river.
