Pre-Season Elk Creek

In preparation for this year’s steelhead season, I’m planning a trip to Elk Creek in the next couple of weeks. I basically want to explore a little bit and get to know the creek better. I expect the water to be low and warm, but I’m planning on taking the fly rod anyway. What are my chances of catching a few trout? Also I’ve read a couple articles in the newspaper about the brown trout stocked in the Lake Erie tributaries. Does anyone have some firsthand experiences catching them?

As of right now up to about the rt5 bridge is the only place you will find even a minnow or two. The creek has not held any fish this summer for whatever reason. Smallies ran real early and left nearly just a quick. lots of shallow and warm wading this time of year.

Could find a largemouth bass at whitemans bridge.  Under it.   I'll be at splash lagoon.

    Good luck,

Guys are saying there are some of those "smolt" browns in lower elk from the stocking last spring. If you really have no where better to go and want to poke around for sentiments sake you can probably catch a few. Release 'em gentle! I plan on tangling with a few of those boys in 2011 and later!
