Thanks, M^2. I forgot to mention that it's good to smear some blue powerbait in your underarms the night before a day of steelheading, to mask your scent, and smear some on your face while fishing to add to the scent factor, reduce glare, clarify pores, and increase blood flow to the frontal lobe.

I use the blue with the glitter in it, so it reflects into the water and blinds the steelies......Makes it easier for me to snag them...

jimhalupka's go-to pattern

cbeagler, I've tried them, and still have most of the originals in my egg box, which indicates the results I've had with em. Blue glo-bugs and sucker spawn on the other hand...well...I've already caught feesh on them this fall.

Was it you that had said that the best fly you used was a big poorly tied blue glo bug? I seem to remember a thread to that effect. Maybe it was a best day, or best year thread.

Here it is. I tied these a bit larger for the Salmon River. This is a #12, and I added the bead head for the first time.  Simple tie. Slide on the bead, tie in mcfly foam rag, a couple of wraps with medium blue estaz, whip finish, trim the tag.

I turn out some blue sucker spawn and some eggs today. Love to put them to the test.

Yup. Big old blue glo bug tied on a #8 short shank egg hook, cut to about the size of a penny or nickel. Doesn't matter what kind of thread you use. I stumbled across some pale blue danville that I'm using now, but last year it was just the orange UTC 140 that I use for sucker spawn. Look like something that'd get sheetcanned by the second night of a beginner tying class, but them dumb fish seemed to gobble it up.

I remember fishing at Trout Run way back in the day and thinking that the lake looked like a giant bowl of Trix cereal because of all the multi-colored pieces of Power Bait floating in it.

Simple, but nicely done. If I was a chrome dome I think I'd eat that. Is that the same shade of blue you used in your SS and globugs?

Thanks. I have not tied them yet. I meant to type "will turn out..."  I still have to run down to PR to get some more hooks, mcfly foam, and ss yarn. I am thinking of looking for a power bait blue.
