will we see lots more Browns this year?

make sure I got this right and correct me if I'm off

but they stocked 75,000  Browns last spring, right?
(not the put 'n take pelletheads for trout opener)

if so, can we expect  jacks to show up this year in the Fall?
Next Spring?

Might see a slight increase this year... the real numbers will show up in another year.

are they the same as steel?
as in...they return matured, roughly as 3 year olds?

if so, we should see a few "one year wonder" jacks, no?
(one season in the lake instead of two like the mature returners)

if so, this is one time you will hear me beat the "let em go" drum

Raises an interesting question. Do the returning Browns have to be 15 " like the steelies or just legal size? Browns are double points!

Thanks spoonie. Guess I should read my regs a little more carefully. But browns are still double points. Even if we release them.

I think we'll see quite a few around this fall.  Mostly because I cheated and took a look around the lower tribs a couple times this summer. There have been quite a few browns in the 12 to 15" range in the lower tribs all summer.  The streams are low but for this time of year they have a great flow and have been full of life all year.

The flow at lower Elk will even be better and more consistant because that last big storm we got ****ed up that lagoon at the mouth.  I was glad to see that because that A-hole who owns property on the other side was prohibitting people from passing through.  Hopefully he enjoys his new cesspool of stagnant water now and it stays just the way it is!  That lagoon was one of the causes of the back and fourth surging down towards the mouth.  For those of you who fish the access to the lake, should really take the time to check out the major changes that have taken place down there this year....its pretty unbelievable.  I have some pics to share, but you just have to see it for yourselves to be able to appreciate it.

I have asked this question like 20 times and have never gotten an answer, maybe today will be the day....

Where did the browns before come from?  Strays from OH or NY, or are they local stockies(like the 9" ones int he spring)  who decided they wanted to be steelheads for the summer with the smolts?

Thanks for the update paul . It has changed drastically sweet ........ Maybe the browns will make it down through from above girard boro park. As for the fish shouldn't be any significant size until next season 5 lbs=3 years ? Does anyone know an approximate growth rate for browns / steel in lake Erie ?

Two new brown trout records have been broken on the Great Lakes . One on Lake Ontario and the other on Lake Michigan.
Tony Brown with his 33lb 2ounce New York state record brown trout
    Lake Ontario- New York
    On Tuesday , June 10
in Lake Ontario off the shore of Oswego County near New Haven angler Tony Brown of Schenectady caught the male brown trout in 24 feet of water between Pleasant Point and Nine Mile Point at around 9 a.m. The brown trout was 38 inches long with a girth of 25 inches. It weighed in at 33-pounds, 2-ounces, beating the previous record set in 1993 by more than two pounds. The old record was also set in Oswego County.
Brown caught his record brown trout on a black and silver Smithwick Rogue lure. He and his father Tom were fishing with Captain Gerry Bresadola and First Mate Dennis Frank of B&B Charters, Mexico. Brown used 8-pound test line with a 6-pound leader, and a custom noodle rod made by Ernie Lantiegne of Mexico.
The fish was weighed at Salmon Country Marina at Mexico Point on certified scales. The weighing was witnessed by Bill Kozielic of Witch Charters. The brown trout is now on ice awaiting confirmation of the record by a biologist from the State Department of Environmental Conservation.

We are waiting for a photo of the IL fish
Illinois fisheries biologist Tom Trudeau said scale samples of the Illinois fish showed that both Paolinetti fish and the new 36lb 11 ounce IL record indicate both were 6 years old--``which I think is an amazing growth rate".

    Lake Michigan-- Illinois
    On Sunday June 22,
just a month after shore angler Manny Paolinetti boated a state-record 30lb-pounder from the Waukegan rocks, Deva Vranek of Palos Hills shattered that record on Sunday with a monster 36-pound-11 1/2-ounce fish caught five miles off Burnham Harbor southwest of the P-marker.
Not having a cooler big enough to hold the fish, Vranek tied the brown to the net, then tied the net to the back of the boat with mooring lines and hauled it in." It may have lost a little weight en route.'' , said Vranek, " we were fishing for coho and never expected to haul in a fish this big".
    The brown was 40 1/4-inch long with a 26 5/8 inches girth.
Vranek was trolling in 48 feet of water with essentially bass gear--a 6-foot spinning rod, a deep-diving Arbogast blue and green crankbait and 20-pound Fireline.
``It's an amazing fish ,'' said fisheries biologist Tom Trudeau, it's interesting to me that anglers are catching these fish, especially because browns are not targeted too often ". Trudeau said scale samples showed that both Paolinetti fish and the new record indicate both were 6 years old--``which I think is an amazing growth rate".

Still looking for Erie growth rates but to get this big in 6 years...wow..
