I always make it up at least once in September, it all depends on the weather.

Hopefully the first day or two after the first hard rain blows the creeks out enough where some can come up stream a little, or the day of the PSA picnic.

Next week to finalize the "One Fly" and then the PSA picnic, then again before the "One Fly", the week of the "One Fly" and then probably The week of Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Pearl Harbor Day, What the heck let's go Fishin' Day. Between Christmas & New Years. Other than that not much.

Usually always the first week of September.  Maybe even last few days of August just to walk some streams, toss some spoons early in the morning.  Sometimes just a hookup is enough to remind you why you do it.  If a fish is landed it's all that more rewarding.  That early I've had 7-8 fish days, and I've had days where I didn't see a fish, didn't see signs of fish at the mouths, and didn't even smell like a fish on the ride home.

If you start going that early as long as you have no expectations, and make a point of walking some streams for scouting purposes, and toss some spoons at every creek mouth if even just to stare at the lake for a few hours and enjoy fishing for steelhead in shorts and a tshirt, it's a success.

How ya been genieman?  I'll be fishing the mouths of the streams far before I set foot in them.  Therefore, as soon as I see a good run of steel into Elk, I'll be there with my Krocodile!  However, thats all in the back of my mind right now...still got more eyes to catch and Kingnuke and I have a trip out to Ontario to look forward to in a week or so.

I'll end up going up next month only because my buddies will be licking their chops.  I'm not a big fan of fishing for steel when its warm out.  That's just me.  My weekly trips will start either in the end of Oct. or early Nov.

I live 4 1/2 hours away and plan to start showing up in Erie around:

    Mid September
    All October
    All November
and so on till the wife is ready to file papers.

Unless I start to hear rumor of good numbers, then who knows.  The dates will follow the fish. :)

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I tried today with no luck at the shore. I'm 2.5 hours with very fine print.
