I used to get cornbread mix, lots of sugar, vanilla  cook it.. then in another melt pharafin wax.  Then mix them up.  Nice sweet doughball that stuck to the hook like a rock.  However, too much wax wouldn't would take the sweetness smell out.  We'd sometimes put the hook in the doughball when it was warm.  Let it cool then tie on new as needed.  Sorta weird I guess but we hammered the carp!

pacarper i hate to tell you but all your recipes are old and out dated...
We dont use flour or cotton any more..
when i am lake fishin 1 1/2 cup of water to one cup of corn meal is just right...
If you need stiffer dough go one to one..
Look at wacker baits .com to see more.
    Good luck!!

    How astute of you.

First off as I stated that article is several years old and it's titled Doughball 101, so it's about basic recipes.  If you bothered to read and comprehend the entire article, I further stated that some of the recipes are ones (not all mine) I had collected over the years, so yeah some are old, but hey, nothing like stating the obvious.
So all those recipes aren't mine (but a few are), and they all ain't outdated either. So ya ain't telling me anything that I don't already know or stated.
I don't use flour or cotton anymore either, doesn't mean that they still don't work tho.

Somebody asked for some doughball recipes, so I was just pointing them in the right direction.

And I copied and pasted the following right from my article:
    To summarize:
Basically you use 1 cup of cornmeal to 1 to 2 cups of  boiled water as a  base recipe depending on how soft or firm you want the bait and what brand of cornmeal you use.  Then you go from there and add other ingredients, adjusting the dry and wet quantities accordingly as indicated by the preceding recipes.

So what you posted above was just pretty much a repeat of what was already in my article.

    again sorry steve,

    Bob,

Don't know where ya got I was ****ed off--------------far from it.  I was just clarifying things.  No apology needed.  It just seemed you were critiquing my article without completely reading it.  Have you read my PA paylake article?

Just remember, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

There are still plenty of carp caught on canned corn and bread---two of the simplest baits going.  Just because us fishermen like to go and make things too complicated sometimes, doesn't necessarily make them the best ways to catch fish.

Some of the cornmeal doughball recipes in my above-mentioned article actually came from an old PA Angler magazine from back in the 80s.  I also remember coming across some doughball recipes in an article in the the old Pittsburgh Press newspaper years ago, as well as some other past PA outdoor magazines.

Course now-a-days, ya can find plenty of doughball info. and carp bait websites on the internet.   If ya google the term doughball, the first hit ya get, takes ya to guess where---------imagine that.

ok if your using doughballs for carp you want to remember that carp during warm weather eat 10%of their body weight per day. Its all about starch. making dough use if you can potato water and make the dough. Make it stiff
and if you were too make yeast dough it will get nice to stay on a hook.
When i was a kid an old fella angler showed me how to use cheese but in warmer water cheese melts right off BUT you can take velveeta and mix flour with it to give it body
    carp love that

Try a cashew nut, small rubber band (like for teeth braces), small hook - chum with corn!

Take Wheaties cereal and vanilla extract, get a hand full and make a ball in water. It is best to start your ball then form it around your hook. When your done put vanilla on it.

Forget the dough balls, get an old set of nylons, bread ties, and cat food. cut 3" X 3" squares from the nylons, spoon in catfood, rap up and tie of with a bread tie, attacn to hook and hold on.
