Minnesota Trip

In a couple weeks, I will be giving KJH a lesson on how to fish Rainy Lake. I am planning on bringing 2 spinning set-ups, a casting set up and a fly rod. My question is about the casting set up. I have a couple Abu Garcia Ambassedeurs 5500 and I have a larger round Gander Mountain baitcaster with a baitrunner. We will be fishing for smalljaws, pike, musky and walleye, so I want something versatile that I can throw baits and maybe fish with livebait, too. Which should I bring? What kind and weight of line? What type of steel leaders do I need?

Just take a trot line set up, 10 lbs of smelt, and 5 lbs of chicken thighs.

That way you don't have to cast at all and can spend more time sippin on corn squeezins.

Trot line is a great idea, so are jugs. I will be running a trot line and jugging the bays...

I'd consider hiring a guide up there too.  Someone with experience in the area.

If Al Lindner can take a day off from writing another riveting article about the latest inovation in crainkbaiting rockpiles, maybe he can guide us?

A while back I approached Doug Stange at In-fisherman about writing an article on a canoe-fishing trip I had done. he was very nice and I talked to him on the phone for 30 minutes, but he basically said no one had any interest in reading about a canoe fishing trip and that people really wanted to hear about technique...

Seiruosly, I've heard it's really easy to get lost around there.  The inexperienced adventurers should always have a guide to help them in the Minnesote wilds.

Lucky for everyone else, I won't be navigating. For several summers, KJH and our other buddy Jimmy guided trips on Rainy Lake and all around the area, so they know the lake pretty well. We are supposed to have a guide come out with us for a day or two...

He makes KJH look like a choir boy. He is equally adept at badgering girls til they cry, getting kicked out of bars, chain-smoking in bars/restaurants that are no smoking, driving heavy equipment that he has no business fooling with, hitting on old guys' wives, stealing the microphone from the singer of the house band and belting out his own rendtion of "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way," etc...

He has been barred from entering Canada for the past 7 years.

    haha.

One more month, and the client would lose the millions of dollars that Obama's giving them, as lon gas they bid by Sept. 1st.  One day late, no "free" money.

Which would then mean, I'm fired, and moving in your basement when the wife kicks me out.
