You got lucky on the weather Friday.  The forecast was WAY off about the severe storms we were supposed to get.  Hell, once the light rain cleared out around 10 am it was mostly sunny all day.  Glad you enjoyed it.  I fished a little early this morning and I'm guessing the river never even stained up from Thursdays light storms (yet another missed forecast).  It was really clear this morning.

I tried the Yough yesterday at Cedar Creek Park. I didn't catch anything but I had a hell of a time. I was wading down below the boat ramp, when this jackass in an aluminum boat with maybe a 40 hp outboard goes jammin passed me. Im thigh deep in water and here come the wakes. I thought to myself what a d*ck. Well, about 150-200 yards down stream are some "rapids" and he is heading for them. Me and my buddy got some laughs for about half an hour watching these 3 guys in a boat beat the hell out of the motor and boat bouncing off rocks, hitting the prop off the rocks, and getting stuck. Eventually they climbed out of them and headed back to the ramp. Karma?

Yeah, you take your life in your hands wading at Cedar on a fine day. Last Sunday I was wading in the same spot as Metal and was twice hit by canoes. These were not kids but middle aged "families" with coolers of beer, in large canoes. I was waist deep about 20 yds out with 100 yds more of river width they could pass through. THey didn't seem to even see me, had little control of their canoes as they were drunk and yelling so loud nothing else existed to them. First one was coming straight for my back so I quickly turned and pushed them just in time....LOL....resulting in them capsizing, cooler, food, and all hit the current. Took them 15 minutes to round everything up and continue on. Not a word to me through it all....
A few minutes later, another one swings so close and turns just in time but a rope trailing with a minnow bucket wrapped around my leg in their wake nearly dragging me down...again....not a word of apology or acknowledging that I was even there....

Moronic....

****s usually get what's coming to them.

I won't go to Dawson anymore because that's where most of these idiots put in on the weekends.  If they are that loud when sober at 8 am, I can't imagine what they are like 5 miles downstream later on.

In the evenings, the yahoos are usually off the river and the floaters you encounter are mostly fishermen and more alert/friendly/courteous.

About a week ago, I was out in the evening fishing around an island.  I was on the deep side of it and a drift boat with two fly fishermen were coming down.  Instead of drifting through the channel I was fishing, they went to the other side of the island.  I was trying to wave them through my side because the other side is rapids about 3" deep.  I couldn't see them through the island, but all I heard for about 15 minutes was that boat banging bottom, lol.  They walked it out the lower end and kept on their way.  Oh well, I tried.

I heard boat and prop banging rocks for like half an hour.
I was actually surprised that the motor still had a prop.
Wish I had a camcorder with me

A few Saturdays ago I was running up the river and my passenger Mud-Bath the Trout Stocker started screaming. Unfortunately, I took my eyes off the river to see what she was screaming about and that’s all it took. I hit a rock that felt like it knocked us completely out of the water. Once I gained my composure (changed my pants) I looked around but didn’t see anyone. If by chance one of you did witness this event I’d like to know if it looked as exciting as it felt?

No, last night was the 1st night I have been on the Yough in a while. I usually fish from the boat to avoid poison ivy, but my last trip to Cross Creek cost me my license plate on my trailer.
Must have made a wrong turn and was heading down a goat trail.

Extereme,
What kind of boat are you taking on the yough?

Just for all you fellow fisherman fishing the Yough. Looks like the action has picked up with the flyrod for sure. Had a great day on the river two Sundays ago. All fish caught were of good quality and were very healthy. Throwing a new white fly streamer that is a killer for sure. Also throwing a few small sculpin patterns with some crayfish patterns mixed in. All are producing good. What a great river system to fish. Just thought I would pass the info along.

May your fly rod always be bent!

Good to know, it was getting pretty bad...at least for me any way.  Hopefully it's turning around.  Been a tough Summer for fishing in general.  I haven't been out in over a week, looking forward to getting back out there soon.

was out for just about 90 minutes around cedar creek park sunday in the evening.  seems that fast drop in temps turned them off for me in that particular time frame.  did have a huge carp swipe at a white clouser, would have been fun on the 5wt.

How's it been lately?  I see Estimated did well the other day, but he doesn't count   He catches big fish when the rest of us are getting skunked.

I fished the Sewickly tonight just before dark with a friend.  He got two dinks on a real small spoon.  I got a few hits from dinks on tubes, but not big enough to take the 1/0 hook.  So, yeah I got skunked.  It was my first time out in almost 2 weeks.  We didn't even see the fish we normally see.  Water was pretty cool and amazingly high considering the Yough table was at 3.2' in Sutersville this morning.  It hasn't rained for awhile...not sure where the water is coming from.

Thinking about hitting the Yough sometime, somewhere this long weekend.  Anyone been getting any action lately?

Ok but the Yough doesn't feed the Sewickly as far as I know.  The Yough is currently very low at 3.2' and the Sewickly was pretty high.

Much higher than the last time we were there about a month ago when it was raining pretty good.  Back then the Yough was near 4' and the water on the Sewickly (which dumps into the Yough near Sutersville) was low.  I found it very odd that the water level on the Sewickly was as high as it was given the recent weather.

Keep in mind the Yough comes up from the south, and Sewickley comes in from the east.  A 50-60 mile shift in the storm can leave one stream blowed out, and its trib(or vice versa) can be low.  If you watch where the storms actually hit, you can usually make a pretty good guess at what will be high/low.

As Raz said, Buggers and bring some Clousers if you have. Alot of big trout still in the river. The white bass are hot now and watch out for the otters, seen plenty of them lately.

Mook,

There are still alot of hawgs that didn't get caught!  Past couple of days in 3 different locations, saw at least 9 BIG ONES come completely out of the water. If you are going out next Sunday, I should be able to join you if you want some company.

Saturday I took a "geriatric group" for a kayak float trip from the West Newton boat launch to Buena Vista; it was quite an experience!

I did see a nice golden, nice rainbow, bunch of suckers and some other big fish that I did not get to see well enough to ID. The golden and rainbow were before Sutersville.

It was a nice day but there were only a couple of people fishing that stretch.

Floated Smithton to Snewton this morning.  We did pretty well on smallies, no hogs, but no dinks either.  All but 1 was 12"-14".  I did lose 1 that was of really good size.  Pumpkin seed tubes and drifting shiners behind the boat.  Lost a lot of them on the tubes today they were hitting but not real aggresively, many were taking it below the hook so you couldn't set it.  That was kind of odd.

Floated Cedar Creek to Buena Vista today; didn’t do any fishing, was baby sitting the ladies. Seen some nice trout upriver from the West Newton bridge a hundred yards or so. Seen nice bass here and there along the way and fish with a red tail. If you saw a purple sit-on-top kayak going down river that was me…. The ladies were in green yaks.
