Does anyone know if there's a bait store near the dam? Drove past the area a few days ago and the only one I knew of had closed. Would like to try the outflow with some minnows. Thanks. Also, has the recent rains been hitting that area?

How was it after last nights downpours? I saw the gauge in Sutersville jumped a foot almost instantly over night. I'm guessing Jacob's Creek and lower is pretty muddy?

I'm gonna have some time after work tomorrow, I might have to do a quick wade if visibility is good enough.

I floated about 4 miles...There are alot of Smallies in there they can be hard to catch because of all the pressure the river gets look for them in spots that you would not normally fish for smallies. here is a pic Click

Nice. I went out early this morning for a quick 1.5 hours. I stayed in one small area. Got 2 smallies a 10" & 14". Both on tubes. Nothing else even got sniffed at. The river was nice and clear though.

If you are speaking about the dam at confluence, the best bait store I know of is Nicklow's near Addison. Its about 8 miles from the dam, off rte 40. S&S bait in chalk hill has bait and there is a place right before you make the turn off 281 from 40. Other than that I don't believe there is actually any bait stores right in confluence.

the place you're speaking of is the Marathon gas station on rt. 40. they have a reasonable selection of bait, lures, and boating sundries, along with snacks and drinks

Fished the Yough today below Confluence. Not a great day, but not bad either. Only landed one smallmouth, but it was worth it.

Nice fish! I was camped at the outflow and fished 16th and 17th with ZERO fish. Not sure if I stink as a fisherman or the conditions were just not good for trout. Tried wooly buggers, spinners, plugs, and power bait. Just couldn't figure it out. Great time on the river though. The more I fish the Yough the more I realize what a treasure it is.

Don't feel bad. I tried for trout first and caught none. I had two hits on a spoon and missed both. I only saw one trout caught, and decided to head down river for smallies.

if spin/bait fishing- werms and inline spinners. rebel crawl, small spoons. if fly fishing- clousers, big buggers, smaller zonker patterns

Good luck Creekman, Friday is supposed to be heavy storms and the Yough has been pretty tough fishing since Saturday with all the heat, low water and now storms blowing through. We've been skunked Sun AM, Monday evening and this evening although the rain drove us off tonight after only an hour. Oddly enough, after being skunked on the Yough in West Newton Monday evening, we hit a creek on the way home and between us pulled out at least a dozen in a little over half an hour. They were small but bitin'. It got dark and drove us out. The creek was definitely cooler than the Yough right now, which may have helped.

Try topwaters, cast along the shoreline.

ORIGINAL: TransAmWS6 mvfisher, change your pm settins i wanna send you something. Something is weird with my inbox. I'm not getting any PM's and I even tried to send you one a few days ago about a creek I think we have both fished and it said yours was full. I haven't received any replies to the ones I've sent in days. Let me check into it I think I know the problem.

Thanks for the info. I'm going regardless of the weather, if I have to work in it I'm certainly going to fish in it. We'll get out of the heavy stuff but forge through the rest. We have pretty good (underated) river smallie fishing in my area of Ohio and this summer has been tough here too. The storms could be a blessing for some good topwater smallie action. We like to throw really big baits for smallies, mostly topwaters from 1/2 oz. to over an ounce. Troubled weather sometimes is the best thing for what we're doing. I hope it don't get blown out, it's looking like we'll be just right.

Anyone go out yesterday or Wednesday and do any good? I almost went out after work last night but decided not to with the storms coming. I figured it would just be a waste of time. Mount Pleasant and surrounding areas got .75" of rain last night, so I'd guess the Jacobs Creek will start dirtying the waters a little bit. More rain coming today. Probably not a real big deal as the fish seem to have lock jaw right now anyways

We caught 33 smallies Friday. Most were pretty small but we did get a few decent ones. Biggest in the boat was 18" but I lost a little bigger one at the boat. We also spotted a 20+ incher in a little depression along a shallow bank but it spotted us before we could fish for it. We caught them all on big poppers and a 1/2 oz. buzzbait and most came from shady spots. We had an excellent time, I can't wait to do it again next year.
