Hmmm....maybe I'll hit Dawson in the AM.

And Sub, yeah, I figured he'd get a little ****ed about "tranny", lmao.

Whatever Francis....still laughing.

Thinking about a float trip Sunday.  Is there a put in/take out near Dawson?  Looks like there is on satellite but not sure if its private.  Not one showing on the PFBC map.

I went to Dawson this morning.  It is clear, a little high, but most of all an exercise in futility to fish on a weekend morning.  Wave after wave of screaming, splashing retards coming out of that launch.  Never again.

I did ask the Hazelbakers driver about the launch.  It's private in you can not park there, but can launch/fish from it if you choose to walk there.  Plenty of folks launching between there and the bridge one block away off of River Rd.  There's lots of areas to access.

Was bangling today near Smithton and Layton. River wasn't bad at all. Caught a few smallies. I was in Boston this A.M and it was brown. It's like a slice of heaven up there.

If you are going to wade or float the Yough on a sunny weekend day, better wake up early. The craziness doesnt usually start until after 8 or 9.

Was at Whitsett this afternoon. A little high and not totally clear, but very nice. Caught 9 smallies and saw a bunch of trout. Good day

Current update if anyone wants to know.  I fished Smithton after work for a bit and it's a little high and slightly stained.  Visibility is OK to about 3 feet for wading.  If the storms hold off, it should be perfect by later in the week.

Picked up two smallies in an hour.

Yeah, that's why I don't like when visibility isn't near perfect.  I went to an area I know pretty well tonight.  But, like I said, it's good visibility to about 3', maybe 4', so it's not bad.  It's still stained enough that I wouldn't go to an unknown area and deal with stained water, sun glare, etc.

The water between Whitsett and Smithon was perfect tonight (Monday). I ran out of bait right before dark, perfect evening. I like it a little stained.

Wear a life vest when the water is muddy believe me you can trip over a rock in waist deep water and get into trouble.

Has anybody fished Meadow Run recently?

Also, just a few general thoughts/questions on the Yough:

1.   I have fished the Yough below the dam several times.  I find this to be a very difficult river to fly fish and certainly seems to require a healthy understanding of the river.  I have not fly fished any "classic" rivers out west, but I was wondering, for those who have, how does the Yough measure up, not only as to quality of the fishery, but as to the level of difficulty?

2.    Has anybody fished for trout immediately below the falls through the portion of the "loop"?  If you have, how did it go?

Thanks in advance.

Ive have caught some hogs below the falls but you have to be careful very swift and lots of dropoffs and deep holes.  Take someone with you if you go

Should be perfect this weekend.  No real rain to speak of down here this week and the gauge looks good.

I fished around Smithton tonight, 1 smallmouth, 1 sauger, 2 eyes.  Caught the bass on a minnow, and the teeth on crawlers.  Water level/clarity was very good(rocks started getting hard to see when I was about waist deep with polarized glasses on).  I was wading about waist deep, pitching bait just off the ledge into the dark water.  Fish seemed sort of hesitant, even the bass was kind of mopey on the strike.

P.S.  Be aware that there are signs on Van Meter road that the road is to be closed next week for repair.  I dunno what all that entails, I just figured I'd pass it along.

Me and my friend hit smithton yesterday morning, just down the road from the old brewery, river was nice, but pretty low & clear. Started off good for me, very 1st fish of the day was a nice 14-15 inch smallmouth (pic included) but then between me n him both, caught just a few smaller smallmouths the rest of the morning b4 we left & decided to try a old fav spot of mine on the mon (caught 1 more smallmouth there) and that was it, river in that area seems pretty shallow, after the fish stopped hitting, i waded out about almost half-way out b4 i thought i better stop, didn't even bring my waders just braved it in an old pair of tennies & shorts, seen 2 nice quilback suckers come swimming up close to me (that was neat) b4 that noticed me & swam away. There was 1 of the many little islands located in this stretch just below us & we kept noticing alot of commotion down around the front side of it, at first we thought naturally just something surfacing/jumping what not, but the 1 time we heard something swirling in the water down there & looked & "literally" seen something swirling around in the water/making wide turns & curves, i thought it had to be a otter???

fished the yough on friday at whitsett and did ok with 8 smallies but one was a 20"+ bruiser that looked about as heavy as the 4lbers i get out of wilhelm. unfortunately i was wading to deep and left my phone aka camera in the truck. would have been nice to get a pic of my new PB river smallie. had two smaller acrobats in that lot also. i swear one of them got 3' of air.

I fished the Yough this morning and water was great. caught 1 smallie on a lipless crank. fished for about 2 -3 hrs in West Newton. btw, lipless crank was StrikeKing Diamond shad, red craw color.

3 on a brown tube, 3 on a white case SSS (including the brute), and the rest on a wacky rigged white senko.

one thing to note is everything was hitting a dead stick or very little movement. as it got later i would almost bet if i had a popper or a small buzzbait i could have crushed as the fish were slurping flys off the top at a pretty good clip.

for the tubes i couldnt tell ya. i use those lindy ez-tube weights and texas rig them but i buy the biggest size and cut them down according to how much i need. if i had to guess i would say 1/4oz or so. little bit of weight and those tubes really take a nose dive. the case SSS i only used an 1/8 oz split shot about a 1 1/2' up from the hook. the wacky rigged senko i fished weightless. all those things are  pretty dense and if you sling them far enough up river they should be on the bottom by the time they drift into the spot you intend to fish.

basically i was launching stuff as far up into the current as i could and letting it drift untill it got hung on a rock then i would very easily pull it over the rock and it would get hung on another one, let it sit for 10 or 20 seconds and repeat. real slow and methodical but it worked somewhat. i still think if i had a popper, 1/8oz buzzbait or a rage tail shad and hit the surface i could have done better but im not complaining.
