Erie boat upgrade? 28' Baha

Just an FYI - Came across this yesterday while browsing at lunch.  Loaded 1987 28' Baha - new engine, lots of fishing equip., $6,500.  At this price, it is either a scam, not been surveyed/possible known structural issues, or, one heck of a deal.

Nothing really funny, just that he had his Baha redone recently. New transom & stringers etc. He'll probably shed some light on the expense and potential problems with that make, model and size. From what I've seen his turned out great and looks nice on the water, but I'm sure it wasn't easy or cheap.

That's definately a decent price on that ride, but it's not for the faint of heart or wallet. Not a trailerable (daily anyway) boat, so it's not really for the budget minded among us. I would love it, but wouldn't be able to afford it after the divorce.

That's why Alumunum boat are awesome to redo...No wood stringers, All metal...Fiberglass boats are a pain in the Arse to redo stringers. Tear them out grind the old fiberglass out and than fiberglass the stringers than fiberglass them to the hull...Not fun at all!!

Not sure I'd use the word awesome. I spent the winter redoing my fathers aluminum. That transom was a TON of work, but it's all done and on the water now, better than new too.

Yeah..Any resto is a lot of work....But I was referring to the stringers...Transoms are a pain, especially if it's a mercruiser cause you have to pull the engine and outdrive...

In this market $6500 isnt a deal on a boat with structural problems....The wood and good materials to fix that alone are expensive...1quart and hardner of west system epoxy is pushing $40 plus you need wood, fiberglass, paint, not to mention a ton of time as well....

Wayne picked his up much cheaper than that...Bout half the price if i remember correctly....Maybe he should pick it up for parts or extra seats, motor, transmission, steering wheels, windshiled wiper motors, ect...You could parts that thing out very easily if you already had a 28 Baha...Heck the riggers and rod holders probaly bring $700 easy.

I saw a 26 Penn Yan Hardtop on CraigsList yesterday for $3800 out by Sandusky....rebuilt engine...Guy says he lost his job...Doug you can rent my trailer if you go buy that thing...lol  Im sure it would drop right on there..

Well boys that boat is a steal IF IT'S NOT ROTTED! I bought my boat for $3500.00 it has twin engines and is the same hull as that one. The catch is I knew it was rotted so Happy Days picked the boat up and gutted it completely and $15,000.00 later in wood and fiberglass repairs, plus new downriggers, planer mast, rod holders, rocket launcher, 2 fish finders with gps, 2 vhf radios, new batteries, battery boxes, waste tank, complete tune ups and rebuild on carbs, new bilge hoses, blower hoses, fuel hoses, water hoses, wash down pump, auto pilot, new bilge pumps and more the boat now cost me almost $30,000.00. Still only have a piece of junk yard trailer th new loadmaster is another $7000.00. So all said and done $35,000-$38,000.
That boat is a good buy for someone who has the desire and facility to tear it apart and rebuild it on there own.
i would do it again tomorrow, what other hull offers a 7'X8' fishing deck with no motor boxes? The boat is a great fishing boat. that captain probably had a survey done on the boat and it won't pass. charters need that every 5 years to continue the insurance policy. You do need a long net but boy do they handle the water good!

THATS ABOUT WHAT 30 GRAND WILL GET YA!

A single engine in a 28 Baha is not enough, youd be buying an underpowered slug

Yep, if it isn't rotted, it is a good deal but if it is then forget about it.

I emailed the guy asking about a survey, rot, etc. and never heard back so I assume that is he problem.  Never called as I am not interested in it.

If you buy a loadmaster trailer for $7000...I will consider you the absolute dumbest person on this planet...Its like burning money on a steel trailer that will just rot away to nothing.....Bad enough you got $30k in the Baha no sense getting hosed down again...

Call up Pirate Marine up, Get yourself a nice Aluminum trailer and save yourself about $2000 bucks...Or give me $7000 ill get you a really nice trailer have it registered and deliver it right to you...

Doing some research on the aluminum trailers. I was told by (loadmaster) they do not support the boat properly, so I will check that information myself. Let me know when you got your single engine 27 footer fully rigged what you have in it. Also give me a wide open measurement of fishing space. I owned a sport and yes they do ride nice BUT they have to sink the engine under the floor for me to own another one, just personal preference. The are both great riding boats but I definately have the advantage with a second engine. I would however have bought your boat cb if I had the extra scratch laying around beczause it was a screaming deal. I'll have that gimbal with me at community saturday evening for our pittsburgh downrigger annual contest.

Come look at my trailer when you get a chance its sitting at camp...Loadmaster is FULL OF $HIT....Did they happen to tell you that surge brakes are illegal as well...they fed me the same BS when I called them...they almost scared me away from buying a trailer all together what they wanted!

Doesnt support the boat properly? My trailer has I Beam Aluminum with 2 huge solid oak bunks that run right up the stringers...The wheels sit almost dead even with the motor...I also have torsion bar axels, disc brakes on all the wheels, and LED Lights all the way around...

I guess Loadmaster They need some kinda sales catch I guess to sell a steel trailer with electric brakes for $7000...I paid $3999.00 for my trailer...They are the Loadmasters feeding you a load of Bull$hit...

I am done with my boat now...its fully rigged for the most part, and looks very nice (aside from a gimbal mount...lol)...I have about $27-28k in it plus my time and aggrivation...WITH the trailer (also includes freight, taxes, my dock for the season, and all other BS)....Keep in mind though I had the fishfinder, kicker, and auto-pilot already in stock...Just sold the other boat too so that helps matters out significantly as well...I like the motor box, nice place to sit when running or trolling.

NOW....Heres where you'll really be jealous...I ran 2 days for walleye with 5 guys 10-12 miles each way and trolled 6+ hrs a day with the kicker....$100 in fuel for 2 days....Gota love kickers and multi-port fuel injection....Full throttle she will go a touch over 33mph before I trim it out...Im happy!

No my trailer doesnt float...And it pulls very very nice.  You just need to have the hitch a certain height to accomidate the torsion bar axels...

I have a Load Rite 5 Star I beam trailer....Fenders are a little cheap on it bout my only complaint, but it works...

I would never own a steel trailer...no way no how...

Maybe it is the third axle that makes mine float but it bounces a lot going donw the highway not sure why seems like the ibeams flex anyways not sure but the aluminum is the least expensive for sure
