Fishing around Salamanca NY
I'm going to be working in this area for a couple of months. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the fishing opportunities in this area? Or even the PA side of the reservoir ? I already have my PA state license. Thanks for any and all information. Do any of the creeks have trout or steelhead?

Thanks for the link. I dont need to be spoonfed either. I dont need any specifics. I was just wondering if the fishing was any good around that area. I have successfully planned many out of state fishing trips around the country. You've got to start somewhere. Thanks again, I will do some exploring.

Bank fish Sugar Run or Willow Bay on Kinzua. Should be some trout in the streams leading into the reservoir-try along W. Washington between Bradford and Willow Bay-Get bait at Hook Line and Sinker or Slavens Country store Delayed harvest area near Pitt Campus in Bradford might still have a few fish but it may be a little warm there. Rent a boat from Wolf Run Marina. Most of Kinzua north of PA is Seneca Reservation waters and requires a special license. ,

There is great fishing all around this area.....pick from toothy critters to panfish and everything inbetween. There are no sectrets anyways. I only fish the tailrace and down river and that has been a few years since the last time.

I have a couple of different boats I can bring along. Small boats can launch at Sugar Run Around old roadbed or along either side may be good.

Check out grizzlygary.com for local reports and info. They should be a little friendlier to your request, unlike some on here. When are you going to be there? Ice fishing can be spectacular on the resevoir, especially up on the reservation. Make sure you get your license though, I heard they have increased patrols up there at all times of the year. On the West side of the lake you can launch at Roper's Hollow or Webbs Ferry (near the NY state line). Fishing in the river below the dam is good for most of the year. Where the Conewango comes into the Allegheny is good too. The Brokenstraw has good fishing. If you get a NY state license, Chatauqua is a great place to fish. Fishing Lake Erie out of Barcelona or Dunkirk isn't too far away (great smallie fishing). Not sure on what size of a boat/boats you have. Tons of other places to go.

i live in limestone which is 5 minutes from bradford and salamanca... To me nothing is better than fishing the allegany river. your gonna need to pick up a reservation license which is 35 bucks, but its well spent. The best place for stream trout fishing around here would prolly be in westline which is out the end of 219 through bradford. As for sugar bay and willow bay/kinzu **** fishing, basically a waste of time unless your throwin minnows or jerk baits at night. in my opinion the river has a higher chance of catching bigger/more fish.. throw me a pm if you want specific directions anywhere around here

Thanks for being so helpful folks. I wont have my computer with me while I'm there. I will have to rely on my own exploring and a couple of maps. I will be staying a couple of months so I'm sure I can find a few fish. On the reservation, if you buy a license do you still need a NY state license? Like I said at the beginning of the post I already have my PA license,so I'm covered there. I'm in town to make money. Therefore I'll be trying to keep expenses to a minimum . Are the reservation lands in PA and NY?

basically all of salamanca is reservartion and most of the waterways in ny around this area are. and you dont need a ny to have a reservation. if you were to pick, i would get the reservation most definately. The allegany river which is 80% on the res around here has every sinlge fish that any other body of water around here would have, minus brooks and rainbows. theres a ton of big ponds littered throughout salamanca that are stocked with walleye and nothern pike. there was a couple 35+ walleye in the local paper this winter caught out of salamanca
