Early Goose?

  Ok,

I called a state park today & asked if the season was going to start Sept. 1st. there. They told me they didn't no anything & told me to call the game com. So I call the PGC & they told me they didn't no & to contact the St. park .

I would think they would open it for huntin on park property on the 4th., after the busy holiday weekend??

Any body know for sure?   me please.

Moraine. Just thought one of them would know by now. Wanted to make plans with some friends on where to go, farms or there. Just hate to get there & the signs say no hunting until the 4th.

Does it usually open later at Arthur?  I seem to remember it opening up there the usual opening day, Sept. 1.  I never tried it there because I don't like the idea of steel bbs landing around me all morning.  That place has to get hammered!  It's unreal how many of those rats I see swimming around when we go night fishing.  There had to be forty of them swim past us last night.  I'd LOVE to see that flock take off in the morning in range as of September.  See how fast I can reload.lol.

You might be thinking of some of the Westmoreland County Parks that open on certain days for early goose season hunting.  They are managed differently from state parks.  I think in the past Northmoreland, Twin Lakes & Mammoth Parks have all had this opportunity, but you usually have to hunt on a weekday and only certain times.  Not sure what the deal is for state parks, but I would assume that the areas that are usually open to hunting on Lake Arthur don't have separate regulations for goose season.  They may however open certain parts of the park to goose hunting that are not usually open to any hunting, kind of like the deal with the county parks in Westmoreland that do this, although I've never heard that they do this.  Only a guess.

Been seeing some flocks starting to come together the past week.  Seem to be hitting the cut hay pretty hard at about 8:30 or 9 AM.  Big flocks flying into a lake just up the road from me every evening.  50 birds last week.  About 150 last night.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to get after 'em early in the season.  Going in for hernia surgery in 1 1/2 weeks.  Imagine I won't be able to carry 3 dozen dekes for a few weeks, or sit up to a shooting position.  On the plus side, the patch the doc is putting in my stomach is made by the GoreTex people, so my guts should be good & dry this fall when the weather turns bad.

I live in southern Butler Co., but have never hunted Arthur.  Any places you can walk into for geese & ducks without a boat?

    Good luck crappy.
