Battenkills are sweet for the $ if you ask me. I have a mid arbor 3 W/spare spool. The whole deal was 115 I think. There was a buy a reel get a free spool.
I wouldn't go much bigger if you go that route. The smaller the reel the less weight you gotta carry around all day.

The reel I use up there mostly is a Hardy Viscount L/A. It's very light.
    Just my opinion.

A good reel to check out and they are hard to track down, is the Martin Multiplier. Cabelas did have them. They have a five to one ratio which is great for when the fish do an about face and head towards you. Also a real good adjustable drag. I own one and have had salmon and steelhead beat the hell out of it, it's never let me down and I have a box of other pricey reels that have fell victim to a screaming king. Hope this helps. Good luck this year.

Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

If a king is screaming so fast as to break the reel---it's prob in the other "mouth"

Steel on a pin---so easy a caveman can do it.

You're probably right. That and also the fact that I didn't adjust the drag after fighting a rock fish.
