Longest casting Bass lures?

At Jacob's Creek, there's a large shallow section along the road that holds quite a few Bass.  I can usually get a few within the casting distance of a worm or small spinnerbait...but they are usually active about 50' further out than I can cast.

I'm using 5' or 5'-6" ultralight rods, 4lb test.  Without going to a 7' rod (right now, I have enough rods)...are there any longer casting lures that have hit the market lately to get some extra distance that I probably don't know about?

Thanks for any input.

Carolina rig that worm you've been throwing, but use a heavier weight than normal. Just cast PAST the area you think the fish are holding and reel it to them.

For my fishing reports, product reviews, stories, and other nonsense...

Carolina rig makes that much difference in casting distance?

It's not the carolina rig that make the casting distance, it's the ability to use a lot of weight (for greater casts') without sacraficing lure performance.

The Carolina rig casts further because you get the initial weight of the lure when you cast and then the second jump from the weight when it gets tossed a half second after. So its kind of like two casts; one with the lure and one with the weight.

My only concern is the extra weight is too much for an ultralight setup though.

And that will do what, to change the action of an ultra-light?

^ What he said.  It's just like building a hot rod, you get a bigger engine, you better get bigger brakes, tires, tranny, etc.  Putting heavier braid on an ultralight to throw heavier lures is just going to stress the rod with minimal return in actual peformance.  I know you're not looking at getting a new rod, but St. Croix makes some 7'-7'6" ML rods that would probably fulfill your wishes.

Thats the problem he doesn't want a new rod. Theres not much you can do with an ultra light in that situation with a small rod like that

Right, not looking for a new setup, I have 3 UL's a medium 7'er and some casting set ups.  I don't fish this place enough to warrant another set up.  I prefer UL, but I will try my medium weight setup and the heavier weighted Carolina rig to see if I can get out there.  Hell, I can switch to my lighter surf gear and really fling it out there...just wouldn't be much fun bringing them in.

We've all come across lures that cast much better than others...I was wondering is anyone had found something like that that would work with an UL setup.  Probably an extreme long shot to get another ~50' from an UL setup.

If you are fishing under a bobber there are some that are fluted that are said to cast farther.
