Does anyone have the formula for weighing carp by using length & girth meas.? I lost the one that I had. The ones that I use for trout, bass & cats usualy were close when I checked with a scale as was the one for carp.  sam

"A Homewood man led police on an hourlong car chase that ended with a crash injuring three officers.

"The car was driving itself," Wright said. "The car has a GPS. It's a Lincoln Navigator. They drive themselves. I wasn't running nowhere."

Here's the best carp weight estimate formula I found years ago on a carp forum posted by a MI angler:

Assume a base weight of 6 pounds for the first 24 inches, add 1 lb for each inch of length greater than 24 inches. Now for each inch of girth over 20 inches add 2 lbs.
Add the two weights to get the total weight.

I caught a carp earlier this year that was 34lbs, 36 in. long and 28.5 in. girth----using the above formula, it works out to 35 lbs. so within one lb.  Not bad.  The carp weight calculator in the above link was 8lbs. off so..................

I found that site last nite & saw that it was rather light compared to another formula I had . also the carp that I caught yesterday was much heavier than what that formula suggests. The one that I had was from In-fisherman mag. & seemed to work well. It doesn't really matter as I normaly C&R anyway & don't usually post numbers & weight anyway. thanks for the reply  sam

That formula I posted works well for bigger carp, some experienced carpers give it a thumbs up.  Use it, when ya don't have a scale. I C&R as well and can usually guess pretty close the weight of most carp I catch by feeling the weight of the fish in the net., but I weigh the bigger carp (especially $$$ fish) I catch sometimes.  My years of competing at the paylakes has honed my fish guesstimating abilities.    I know very few carpers that don't carry a good scale to weigh their catches.
About how heavy was that carp you caught and where did you catch it?

I sometimes carry a scale, but usualy forget it. Like I said I am not that serious about it. the reason we even meas. it was that my buddy took a pic. on his cell & the carp looked like a goldfish, so we decieded to meas. it.It was 28'" l ,& 17" girth. 1 form. said 7# the other 11# . I think more like 11. Was at the upper twin lake.   sam

If it had barbs on either side of its mouth like a common carp, then it was probably a koi.  Around 10 lbs. sounds sounds about right.
